I'll stand by my rating since I had a blast watching it today, but I did expect more (which is never a good idea.) Definately should watch after the credits.
I loved the first one very much. The second was not as good as the first one for me (I liked the original Roadie better). This one is in between them. I liked the idea of an action-guy Tony Stark and all action scenes with him not in his armor. But I can understand if people would cry "I pay to see that/those armor suit in action!!!". It was sad though that one of the villain was trashed. I mean not only was he stripped of his power but his character was pathetic.
Saw it last night. VERY Disappointed. It's a big FU to old time Iron Man fans. The story was pretty good overall, but the character interaction lacked a lot of the charm of the prior two movies. Happy was a charicature of himself, Tony was weird, and the big surprise made me so mad I could not enjoy the rest of the movie. I did not really want to see "Tony Stark, Action Hero" I wanted to see Iron Man and Iron Patriot go to town on badguys. So unhappy about this film.

As for me, when I first heard that the Mandarin was NOT going to be in IM3, I was outraged. Saving Tonys Arch Enemy for the final film was a good, solid idea, and something pretty much No other superhero film series has done before, but to now say that he wont be ending the series, giving us an Iron Man vs. Mandarin finale, well that just pissed me off.
So imagine my relief when it was later announced that Mandarin WOULD be in IM3, and that Ben Kingsley would be playing him. I was Thrilled!..........until I actually saw the movie, and was devastated to what The Mandarin became. A joke, a comic relief, a weak, useless, pathetic nobody. Heck, to think I was worried that they werent going to give him the Rings Of Power (each with their own abilities), what we actually got, was SO MUCH WORSE.
OK, beyond that Horrendous twist, we also got a so so story, a kid sidekick, a lackluster villain, way too much Tony Action Hero and not enough Iron Man, and a final battle that was just a mishmash of armors and molten soldiers slamming into one another (and the post credits scene was pretty rubbish to boot).
Not saying the movie was horrible, it was OK enough, but like I said a week ago, my least favorite of the IM series. They had some Spectactular scenes and set pieces, but with everything else I though was pretty blah (to downright Insulting) those big scenes just got lost in the shuffle.
IRON MAN 3 - 6.50 / 10

Don't read any spoilers before seeing the movie, seriously.

I was super impressed with Marvel's bait and switch. I really thought Mandarin was going to be the big bad, and they advertised it that way too. This is a classic audience psych out. Very nice
A nice character arc for Tony. I always appreciate it when they move a character forward in the movies, because in comics, the characters can never really change, they have to keep selling comic books forever. Looking forward to wherever they take him in Avengers 2 or Iron Man 4 or wherever.
This movie was not made for comic book fans. It was made to be an appealing film ($$$$$$). It is an appealing film, if the lack of comic accuracy doesn't get in your way, and you don't expect everything to make sense.
SPOILER ( for those who didn't see the warning earlier)
If the purpose of the "Mandarin" in the movie was simply to be the distracting "face" of evil, then it would have made more sense, since Killian was from A.I.M. , to use M.O.D.O.K. His face is much more menacing, would have made a greater 10 o'clock news impression on the fearing public, and he is more disposable. Now the chances of another Iron Man film where he actually battles the Mandarin just reached "not in my lifetime!"
As a comic fan, I give it a 3 for the Mandarin debacle. But for the general public, most of which doesn't know or care to know hardly anything about Iron Man, I would give it an 8.
I'll throw a 7 its way. I liked up until Mandarin was revealed to be a fake. And then I sat there the rest of the movie thinking to myself "Every time they try and get serious, they make it into a joke."
I was fine with the scenes with the kid and the one-liners between Rhodes and Stark, but I had the view going in that this was going to be a some-what serious movie. Boy was I wrong...
I wanted a "downward spiral, fight to keep your family and life together" Tony, but what we got was "damn, I haven't slept in 2 weeks and it shows in my work" Tony.
I also feel that this movie could have been left out of the Marvel movie continuity and nothing would have been missed. Have any of you played the Final Fantasy series of games? This movie reminds me of 13-2: a new entry that advances the story maybe 3 inches, max.
Maybe I'm being too critical, but Iron Man is my favorite character.
8-10 for me. The whole Mandarin/Trevor debacle does indeed suck greatly, but fortunately I spoiled myself on that before seeing the movie. Killians death was kinda abrupt (though I have no problem with Pepper getting the final blow). Some great action otherwise (Barrel of Monkeys, anyone?)
Hopefully, somewhere out in the MCU, the real Mandarin lurks (wonder how much Killian paid for the image rights? )
Oh, and Tony clearly hasn't been forewarned about Avengers 2 given "Clean Slate"; it'll be interesting to see what Mk number he'll be on for that...
Heroclix named Katana are surprisingly easy to decapitate...

See, I wouldnt have liked this as well, if instead of the stupid post credits scene we got, we instead got a glimpse of The Real Mandarin (which is NOT Killian), menacing speaking about how the world believing in the false Mandarin was all part of his plan, and that his true movements are still to come. That would have been cool, and would have left a better taste in my mouth over having Mandarin be a drunk, weak willed fool. Yes the twist got me, it got everyone, but just because you cant see the twist coming doesnt make it a good twist, in this case, it was horrendous, and ruined one of Marvels premiere villains, and Iron Mans arch enemy, in the Marvel movie universe.

-The fact that this is an acknowledged post-Avengers world. I like taking continuity seriously without being a butt about.
-Tony's development. I like seeing him put in a situation he can't handle, I like that the fight this time is with his old demons.
-Pepper gets to do action stuff at the end.
-Big time action was good. The final fight was a twenty minute toy commercial, but damn if it wasn't entertaining.
-Guy Pearce made for a good bad guy.
-A.I.M. was there. They might do more stuff in the future with them.
-The tag at the end was fun.
-It does what Iron Man II wanted to do but better.
-The Mandarin twist. I love it. Brilliant bait and switch.
Dislikes:
-So, the only way to kill Guy Pearce is to blow him up twice?
-Pepper spends most of the movie as a damsel in distress.
-The other girl doesn't really do much beyond spout exposition and then die.
-Happy Hogan works for Stark, but doesn't know how to use a Stark tablet (minor nitpick)?
-Kind of a long movie, ennit?
Overall: 8.25/10. Not my favorite Iron Man flick, but a solid entry into the franchise and a great kick-off to Phase II.
