This Saturday is UFC 159 and is headlined by Chael Sonnen versus Jon Jones...is anyone here really giving Sonnen a chance in this one?

Well... The good thing I could say about Chael is that he fought Anderson Silva twice. While Johnny Jones doesn't want anything about Anderson.

Hah, I guess that is the best thing to say about Chael.

Here's what I envision happening. Chael throws a big overhand right, follows that with a takedown, fails the attempt, maybe tries it a few more times before he realizes Jones is much stronger than him, then Jones (T)KO's an exhausted and mentally defeated Chael.

Yeah that's highly possible.

I can't help notice in his past matches that Bones seems to prefer winning by submission (though he didn't in his fight with Suga Evans).

If Chael doesn't be careful, he might either tap out or get saved by the ref.

I just wish the pay-per-view wasn't so expensive. If it cost less I'd love to watch it.

GSP, Anderson and Bone Jones are my favorite fighters. Jones is going to destroy Chael 'Mouth of the South' Sonnen. If it gets past the 2nd round, I'd be surprised.

Unfortunately, I probably won't get to see the fights tonight, as I have to go out of town to watch my son play Lacrosse (which I'm looking forward to), but if I can make it back in time my buddy is hosting the fights.

War Bones Jones!!!!!

No offense, Anderson is my 2nd favorite fighter and I've been following him since he was in Cage Rage a long time ago, but with all due respect I don't think you know what you are talking about. Anderson is the one that doesn't want anything to do with a fight against Jones. I'd hate to see Anderson go out like that, just like I'd hate to see GSP go out like that against The Spider (they have weight classes for a reason)

I see, I thought it was both fighters (Jones vs Silva) who don't want to face each other. Thanks for the info.

According to Joe Silva in a recent interview, he believes that a Super Fight between Silva and Jones is much more likely. Although both men have simultaneously expressed interest AND disinterest in fighting each other. I really hope we don't see that fight. I've been following Silva since his Shooto days and easily my favorite fighter. The size, age, reach difference between the two is painfully obvious and Silva's TDD isn't exactly world renown.

And the expected happens. Jones annihilates Sonnen in round 1.

That guy really needs to learn to keep his mouth shut, though I guess it has gotten him 3 title shots and 3 epic loses (2 by way of brutal beat down).

I think if you were to ask Ed Soares, he'd be singing a different tune. Jones is a different kind of animal. He's on a completely different level than anyone else out there right now. I'm not sure that a lot of HW fighters would stand a chance against him. It's crazy.

The only way I want GSP to fight Silva is if they have the official weigh-in
the night they fight and just before they walk into the cage.

If Silva ( or on the other hand even GSP ) doesn't meet the weigh-in requirement,
then he gives up half of his purse to GSP.

None of this weigh-in one or two days before the fight business.
This is a Super-Fight at a 'catch-all' weight,
Not a normal fight where both guys weigh about the same.

George looks muscular and well built,
but he is not really that big of a man
and has actually said "I am not (built) thick".

I would love to see this fight under that condition.



I heard Chael on the Jim Rome show say that he was gonna make more than J Jones
for the fight and J Jones was mad about it.
Chael said, "Sell the fight like I sell fights, and you will make more."

Anyway, there is a reason why they weigh in the day before a fight. When you cut weight to make a weight class for a fight, you dehydrate your body. Not only do you lose intramuscular water, you also lose some of the fluid that acts as a cushion around the brain (called the Cerebrospinal fluid, or CSF for short). In the past, they did in fact weigh in on the day of the fight. Unfortunately, this practice resulted in many permanent brain injuries and deaths, due to the body not having enough time to re-hydrate and replace the fluid around the brain.

In short, weigh ins day of the fight are never, ever going to happen.

Also, you want to see these guys in their best fighting condition, which they would be nowhere near if they were fighting the same day as the weigh in.

I know all that.

What I am saying it that Silva is a much bigger man than GSP.
At least 20 pounds heavier. If not more.

Them fighting is not really fair to GSP.
Silva is a master at cutting weight.
Even if they met at a 'catch weight', and Silva made the weight
the day before the fight, by the time they fought Silva would weigh more.

No, the only fair way for them to fight is if the weigh-in is just as they are
walking into the ring for the fight.

If Silva wants to make the weight then he can take weeks and weeks
to get down to the weight.
