Now that Azrael is over, does anyone else want to see Dennis O'Neil return to The Question?
I still feel this was the best comic series ever to see print anywhere. The Question is to comics what The Prisoner was to TV. I love comics that leave me thinking.
Probably one of the most underrated series (both the Prisoner and Question!) Imagine Rucka or Brubaker writing the Question - insert Homer drooling noise here.
Briel - you liked the Elementals too, right? We need to compare notes!
Sir,
I have all the Elementals! I'm going to have to reread them. I swear that was the first and probably best hardcore book. We should definitely compare notes. I would be in heaven if Rucka took on The Question. I was sad when they didn't continue The Huntress/Question pairing that they promised to come after Cry For Blood.
Back in the 80's, there was a little independent book by some guy who used to do drawings for Dungeons and Dragons. His name was Bill Willingham (yes, The Fables guy). This incredble team book tackled real ramifications of violence, reationships, and social effects metas would have. Even after Wilingham left, the book just kept getting better. The difference between this book and The Authority though, was deep characterisation. (All my Authority criticism is post Ellis, and the new Morrison looks like he's going to repair the damage. I love Ellis <uh, in a good way>). You can find this book for cheap now, and it is worth your time.
The Question rules. If they did bring him back, it might give me a reason to start collecting comics again. They really tackled some interesting issues in his series. The art in the first 10-20 issues was phenominal, too...
I've got a Question action figure here on my desk at work, complete w/ removable mask - my pal picked it up for me at a yard sale for $2!
the only reason i can see them holding off on the question is that the last time he made a major appearance the book didnt sell. im not saying it was "his" fault but the poor sales dont help things. just my 2 cents
Wow. I paid a lot for mine at a comic shop, but I had to have him. Sorry about the Elmentals diatribe. I did start this for The Question. Hear us DC! WE WANT VIC SAGE BACK NOW!
I think the LAW mini series would have sold better if DC had actually promoted it instead of just throwing it out there. Cry for Blood sold well from what I understand. Both Marvel and DC have a bad habit of advertising books that are already selling. Wouldn't you advertise lesser known books to increase their sales and hopefully create the next big thing?
That was Cry For Blood. I guess I was mistaken, because where I live, all the shops ordered lots, and they all sold most of the issues out. I guess it just goes to show how tastes can run different from area to area.
LAW is terrible- ugh. Set Vic up right, and I think you'd have a terrific series . . .
And this is where Briel and I have disagreed in the past - I didn't like the post-Willingham Elementals. I think we both agree that the first part of the first series was way ahead of its time. I forget if its collected in trade paperback.
And where oh where can I get a Vic Sage doll/action figure?!?
The first story arc was the only one ever done for Elementals. It was titled The Natural Order. It has been so many years now though, that it wll be easier to find the actual issues.
I liked the second writer a lot and Jill Tompson's early work. The guy who turned people to stone was disturbing. Later when Morningstar finds out her lover was shapeshifter wasn't too cool either. I also liked how they dealt with Tommy being stuck at 14 as the series followed real time fairly closely.
I still think DC should buy the characters from whoever owns them at the moment. Probably a bank due to Comico's bankruptcies.
i want my Vic Sage Clix fig!
I can see him like Lady Shiva......a little close combat expert.... maybe a little toughness..... buts that about it.
Maybe some incapacitate?
no team affiliation
no range
I have a copy of the 1st issue signed by Dennis Cowan(If that's the artist) I found him at a convention, went and bought a 1st and got him to sign it. It is one of my prized comics.
I have my local Comic Book retailer on the lookout for any comic that has the Question in it.
If you can go looking for those "What do you want in the next set?" threads... you will always see me mention Mr Sage..... oh, and Red Tornado......but for now, I'm just anxiously awaiting the release of Cosmic Justice!
Yes, but you're a surrealist! I'm a normal guy!
Gil Zoo Crew or bust!
