I Dig the New Carol series, good writing , good art, and I'm glad she's going by Captain Marvel. ( A change I called for back when she was House of M Cap Marvel).
Buuuuut........................
The new uniform is still awful. It looks like Carol raided Buster Crabbe's wardrobe.
Okay, maybe the black costume was getting too hoochiefied, (thanks Frank Cho.) but, If that was a problem, they could have went with a full coverage version of the 70's suit or black and yellow suit, (kind of like her Fear Itself "Mighty" costume maybe?).
The Fauxhawk was also ridiculous, but they seem to have dialed that down though.
That costume is ugly! That's why Ming the Merciless got rid of it to start with.
Did it get a better artist? I wanted to like the first few issues, but it was just so poorly illustrated, I couldn't see the forest for all the ugly trees.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.

I think you might be in the minority on that one. Because if cosplayer enthusiasm is any indicator, Carol's new costume is the biggest thing to hit the scene since Harley Quinn. Women with hips can go out and play dress-up and they don't have to show off all the goodies to do it.

I'm used to that.
I saw a couple ladies cosplay Cap Marvel at Heroescon this year. The "fauxhawk" looks even more ridiculous on a real person.
I also observed women with hips that didn't have a problem playing dress-up as Black Canary and Zatanna. but whatever.

I liked the art, it reminded me of that weird Alex Nino/Rudy Nebres style. but I can see how it might not appeal to folks.
I haven't liked many of the changes that were made to Carol Danvers through this book. They turned one of my favorite Avengers into this weird mess of feminism and "superiority". I'm all for character change, but only when it matters and moves a character forward. There was nothing wrong with her old costume (any of her old costumes), they didn't need to give her this identity crisis thing or flings with other individuals, and they gave her a name she neither needed nor deserved.
All in all this "Captain Marvel" series has been pretty bad, but I do have hope that either the writers will make things right, or Marvel will switch the creative team to people who will give Ms. Marvel a purpose and allow her to grow as a character, not a tool for "change".

You liked it better when she was wearing hooker boots and a thong bodysuit and enduring the occasional rape (that's a link to Marvel EIC Jim Shooter apologizing for said story, which happened way back before all the cool kids were using rape in their storylines)? As for not deserving the name, I do agree with you to an extent - she should be *Colonel* Marvel.

The rape story was bad news all around er'body was way out of character. someone must have been on generic secanol when they came up with that.
Rogue stealing her powers/memories annoyed me too. I really wish X-verse was separate from 616 continuity,
The black and gold costume wasn't thong-ish to begin with, that seemed to start more or less recently. depending who the artist was.
I never really dug Carol all that much, and the few issues of this book that I read didn't really make me a fan. ::shrugs::
I recommend the original series, and the pre-Dark reign issues of the 2nd(?) Ms. Marvel series. The issues of her tooling around in a mini helicarrier with Machine Man and Sleepwalker kick ass.

I never read the main Avengers book, only New and Mighty along with the event books from Civil War up to Siege. Nothing like that happened in those books, so again it comes down to a writer doing the wrong thing.
You wanna call them hooker boots, sure, you can throw that negative connotation on them. All it would take is just attach the bodysuit to the boots and the costume would not be as "exploitative" as everyone makes it out to be. I loved the lightning bolt, the simplicity of the mask and the long hair, it just FIT Carol. The crappy waist/hip sash doesn't work, the fauxhawk looks incredibly stupid, and the mask they give her from time to time also doesn't fit Carol.
The costume changes just don't work for me, and neither does the track that Deconnick is writing for her. She just seems like a sad lost puppy instead of the empowered superhero that she used to be. Brian Reed's Volume 2 solo series, while having some hick-ups, did a great job at exploring the character while giving her something worth fighting for.
Deconnick just isn't bringing that same level of personality, yet everyone hops on the "She's the best" train mostly because she is a woman. Gender doesn't define great writing, great writing defines great writing...
Not to say Deconnick is all bad, she just hasn't proven her success with Carol Danvers in my eyes.
But all of this is just my opinion and is subject to an individual's agreement or disagreement.
