I have a question I'd like to ask for your opinions on. My wife and I are both big comic book readers and are debating having a second child. We both would like to name the child with names we have grown to love from our reading.
Do any of you have children named after something you really enjoy, mainly comics?
I know Kevin Smith named his daughter Harleen Quinzel Smith. What are your thoughts on this?
If you were to name your baby like this, what would you call him/her?

I have an extra Mikhail Rasputin card and need an Exodus card. Are you my soul mate? Pm me.
I always figured Robin would make a good name. Not just because I like the various Boy Wonders, but because I like Mork and Mindy, The Muppets, archery, and Winnie the Pooh.
Bruce also might be the manliest name in the world. Even without Batman, you've got Bruce Lee, Campbell, and Willis. You could give your kid the middle name of "Manly," but it would be redundant. Twice.
This is only a half serious post. I do like the name Robin, and I like the heroes, but it's not the only reason I'd pick the name. the bit on Bruce being a manly name, while true, I only posted because it's been a bit that's been running through my head for a while.

My fathers name is Bruce, so that was an option!
We've come up with a boy and a girl name we like so far. We are really hoping for a boy though.
Loki James Thanos A.
Emma Jean Frost A.
We did not choose Loki for its Marvel connections, we are just really into Norse mythology. Emma Jean is cool because Jean is a family name so its got double awesome. James is indeed Howlette, as I am a huge Logan fan but don't like Logan much as a name.
It seems corny indeed, but we have been going over names for years and these seem to be fitting.

Name your kid Loki, and he'll get picked on his entire life. Make Loki his middle name, and he's got bragging rights.
I think this spesific example is in somewhat bad taste, because ms. Quinzel isn't exactly a healthy role model. But in general, I don't have any problem with it.
Just keep in mind that your kids don't exist for your amusement, and that they'll have to live with whatever name you give them. (At least until they turn 18.)
If you're going to do this, I think it'd be best to pick the name of one of your more obscure favorites, so it becomes more of an inside joke. No-one's going to blink at a kid named Thomas or Zinda Blake, but naming your son Lex Luthor (Edit: or Thanos! Seriously, man?) is cruel and unusual.

Really, three names? What are you, English royalty? Prince William, is that you?
I agree with the sentiment to avoid naming your child something simply because you find it amusing. Emma Jean sounds very pretty (seriously, I love the way that sounds), but Frost? I get that you're a comic fan, but that sounds like one of those painfully awkward celebrity child names.
The boy name just sounds too comic-y. Loki Thanos? This isn't a cat, it's a person who would probably appreciate not having to introduce himself as the "supervillain kid." Loki'd make a pretty awesome middle name though, in my mind.
I give multiple middle names because I was given them. No we aren't royalty, but my mother gave me 3, I've cut it down to 2 for my daughter already.
You don't have to be royalty - you can just be Mexican. My kid is Duncan (Shakespearean reference, as well as House Atreides weapons master) Javier (because, as I said, Mexican) Skywalker (to honor the Jedi portion of his ancestry) hail_eris.

Problem with Loki is that Loki's not really the kind of name that you want your kid to embrace. We have friends with a kid named Ronin. When I heard the name, I was like, "Ye gods, have you never read Lone Wolf and Cub? Ronin's not the kind of thing that you become by choice."

I've never read it myself, but am now compelled to! Lol.

Imagine your kid having to introduce themselves as Loki to a prospective boss. Even if he goes by James, it's still a story he's going to have to tell every time someone see's it.
He'll be saying "my parents really liked Norse mythology" for his entire life.
Also, if you name him Loki James Thanos, you'll be naming him after a wicked trickster, a murderer, and someone who was based on the personification of death respectively. Yeesh.
Loki as a first name would be hard to deal with. But I think it could actually work as a girl's name. Loki Jean Frost A. Girls can get away with strange names easier than boys for some reason, and Loki was occasionally a woman, so the name is conceivably multisex. Maybe. All I know about Norse mythology I learned from marvel and wikipedia.

I was just kidding about the royalty. I had an image in my head of Prince William reading comic books and the possibility of a future "King Loki James Thanos of England" makes me laugh.
I like the girl name. Frost is an odd one to me, but it gels well enough with Emma Jean, which is a great combo already. Since multiple middle names runs in the family, what's one more?
As for Loki. As a first name, it does mean that the kid will have to explain to people that no he's not named after the Marvel villains Loki exactly, his mom loves Norse mythology, and yes his dad loves Marvel comics enough to name him Thanos but that's not why he's Loki... It's just one of those things where if you're fine with your kid having to explain that frequently, then I don't see a real problem. It's definitely an unusual name, but it's not bad.
Thanos, however, seems like a bad choice to me. It has the oddness of being an alien name, although that's not the biggest thing (I wouldn't personally name a kid Jor-El, Groot, or Optimus Prime either, but ymmv). The real problem I have is you'd be naming you kid after a fictional mass-murdering nihilist. Not sure why you'd want to pass that name history to anyone, much as you might enjoy the character.
