Had an interesting question come up regarding the WatX LE of Nightcrawler, and just wanted to see what the general consensus/feedback on his attack SP is.
SHARK TO THE STOMACH: Nightcrawler can use Precision Strike. If Nightcrawler hits an opposing character with a critical hit, choose a power that character can use. For the rest of the game, that character can't use that power.
The question is the timing, when do you choose the power? Is it immediately when you hit? Or after damage is dealt? I'm assuming it's when you actually hit, and I'm also assuming that you can only choose powers that are showing on his dial or part of his trait at that time(Such as M stating she can use Willpower, since his power says can use, he would be able to negate that power right?).
Don't believe in yourself, believe in me who believes in you! Set your sights for the sun!

Since the effect of SHARK TO THE STOMACH and dealing damage would resolve at the same time, the active player would decide the order of these effects and could choose to resolve SHARK TO THE STOMACH before dealing damage. They may also choose the power after dealing (and the character taking) damage.
I asked them about SHARK TO THE STOMACH because I disagreed with their ruling on WKM-021 Rogue that you can choose before or after damage.
But apparently effects that trigger on a successful hit and dealing damage happen simultaneously, allowing the active player to determine the order.
I say then that Super Senses and dealing damage happen at the same time so I can choose to deal damage before you get to roll. (I almost put that in Teal but I'm kinda serious about it.)

You don't know if a character was hit until after you roll for super senses. Super senses turns a hit into a miss. I really don't see what the problem is here.
EDIT: Except apparently that he also uses precision strike, so Super Senses won't matter for this power.

Actually, the Rogue effect isn't against this ruling... with Rogue, you choose when you hit, but you can use the power/stat after actions resolve (which is when the "after damage" powers/stats are showing). Subtle but different.
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????

I was actually referring to the first part of it... "When Rogue hits an opposing character, choose attack or defense. After actions resolve, you may choose to replace her current value..."
That's why I had asked if you have to choose when the hit is made (which normally happens before damage is dealt), but they said that you could deal the damage and then decide which slot so it's not a blind choice. They never gave a reasoning, but you posting your thread actually explains more of why in their logical progression.

Shark To The Stomach is Precision Strike, therefore Super Senses doesn't happen at all.
Yoda of Borg, we are: Futile, resistance is. Assimilate you, we will.
I agree with burleigh, but I think there's an important thing to point out. There are two parts to Rogues effect that make it different, he underlined the first in the below quote, and I'm going to bold the second part.

Exactly my concern with how the power was written. Without clarification, I could see it easily being argued that you have to choose the power before dealing damage, making it a blind choice unless you have memorized that dial. :-s

As written, that is exactly how I would rule that.
Exactly why I asked on WES for clarification... it sounded like SUCH a stupid power if it worked as written. It really would solve SO many issues if they had judges and/or competitive players that were consulted when writing rules like these.
