It's funny how readers argue that Marvel heroes are more rejected in their universe while DC's are more accepted, then both companies have/are introducing Muslim legacy characters within the last year, and Marvel's is generally already getting a better reception than the Green Lantern Simon Baz.

2) The problem with Baz is that there's nothing to justify him being a Green Lantern - he's the kind of guy who used 'I'm just a car thief' to justify why he was driving a van full of explosives.
And a ring choose this guy to wear it? Am I missing something?

It's cool that they tried, but he's not a relatable character. When people want an "ethnic" character, they don't usually mean that they want something so heavy handed. They want something that reflects their lives. Like a Peter Parker or Static type of character.
I actually heard about this article on Facebook before here. My muslim friend was excited that his niece would have a comic character to relate to.
DC introduced Simon Baz when Hal Jordan was taking a backseat for a little while, only to bring Hal back right away and make Simon insignificant. So, they pushed Simon onto the JLA, but then had Trinity War right into Forever Evil.
I think that people who want to see more "ethnic" characters purely for the sake of seeing more "ethnic" characters are doing the whole "reading a story" thing wrong.
Me? I don't care what a character's race or nationality are. I care about whether their story is worth reading.
Longest-Reigning Drunken HeroClix Champion - anyone got a liver?
I feel like this is just a ploy so they have an excuse when people tell editors and creators that Carol Danvers isn't (and never will be) Captain Marvel.
"Oh well we already have a Ms. Marvel, so there can't really be two now can there?"
Really? Yet you have 4 Captain Marvels...
I hope that this character becomes more than just a defensive mechanism by the company, and I look forward to seeing what the writers will do with her.
This character has been given a big media push, including in the New York Times. I just wish they hadn't used such a dreadful piece of art. Any explanation for the strong pimp hand?
Matter-EaterLad Snack List: Time Gem, Remaker
Etrigan Prime Transformation List: Blackhawk Pilot, Per Degaton
I'm all for more diversity in comics, as long as the characters are well written and not just a push to meet some sort of self imposed 'brown people quota'. The idea that anyone can be a hero, regardless of gender/skin color/religion is never a bad thing to have in comics.
However, Carol's transition from Ms. Marvel to Captain Marvel was a knife in my heart - and *anyone* replacing her as Ms. Marvel is just twisting that knife.

I think what irritates me about the cry of "ZOMG DIVERSITY" is that it almost exclusively comes from upper-middle-class hipster honkies (at least in my experience).

I personally like the art. I believe she has shape-shifting powers, hence the hand.

This.
I dislike this incarnation of Ms. Marvel before it's even out of the chute, because I'll dislike anything aside from rebooting Carol Danvers to pre Dark Reign status.
I'll own whatever label this attitude earns me.
Want diverse heroes? Cool. Make some up, with new names independent of existing characters.
