Every year, HeroClix players assemble at Gen Con Indy to play through a gauntlet of worthy opponents and challengers, all with the aim of proving they’re worthy of the mantle of HeroClix World Champion! Today we check in with 2012 HeroClix World Champ Alex Avila, who is nice enough to give us a peek behind the curtain and tell us what it was like to participate in the HeroClix design process.
I really wanted Stargirl... but that sculpt. Ugh. No thanks.
If you won Worlds you would do it too. He deserves to take the chance to have a sculpt of himself in the game. Nicely done sir. I don't know if I personally would ever use this figure but I can see potential there

love the dial and her... him... not so much... if she was saving him, then it would be okay, if he was a thug hanging from the staff, that'd be okay...
but i hate the way he is in the sculpt.
going to use her all the time after i mod the crap out of her
1.) it's about time. The 2012 champ doesn't see his reward until 2014? Ugh. I would have shoehorned this into Teen Titans.
2.) It would be awesome if the dude was a removable element.
3.) I can't wait to see next year's winner sculpt themselves onto a dial.
4.) Congrats champ! I will buy you a cheeseburger next time you're in town.
coming soon : nu52 Hercules

I agree. Decent dial, the sculpt looks...... forced? Did they already have the sculpt and just add him on?

I really wouldn't put myself on the sculpt. It's incredibly self-indulgent. Good work on the dial, but the guy just chilling with Stargirl for no particular reason? Gah. At least Black Adam was choking the other winner.
Groot : I am Groot! Rocket Raccoon : And he's Groot!
It feels like a weird move to put yourself on a character that's so personal to the creator. I would have tried to get in touch with Johns and see if they could put him on there instead of myself.
It's an interesting dial. I think I'd have rather the Belt/Rod thing be a choice (ala Cerise) instead of a roll.
And I once again don't understand why we're giving every other figure indomitable.

I agree with this completely. I've been wanting a new Stargirl, and I love the dial, but the guy completely ruins it. I really hope it's not too much trouble to remove him. I just find it hard to believe that Wizkids would ruin a fan favorite character for everyone like this. Sure he won Worlds, but getting to choose a figure and design a dial should be enough. Putting yourself into the sculpt is just narcissistic and ruins it for everyone else.
I really dislike that people are ripping a guy for having himself placed on the sculpt. There are a plethora of reasons as to why he would be there and in that position.
It just sounds like a lot of jealously to me. We know by now that the Champion will be in/on the sculpt in some way. It is his/her right to do so after such an amazing feat. I say ESPECIALLY so for Alex who had one of the most original and different championship teams that have ever won.
I say Bravo to him. I personally don't like the figure that much (it doesn't lift my skirt), but it isn't a bad figure by any measure and it isn't Bencrawler either. I say Kudos to you good sir.
Hopefully one day I'll have the money to go to Gencon so I can try my luck in the big event to see how if I can hang with the best of the best.
