I have a 1000pt golden age tournament coming up, 5 non free actions per round. Knowing those who come to my venue, high chance of some team bases.
At the moment I'm trying to figure out a team. I definitely will be using:
BFC: Atlantis Rising, Ordinary day
PR007 Slattern - 600pt (2 characters )
Slattern will have:
- 40pt full Infinity Gauntlet (negate the use of Outwit on him)
- 5pt submerged Feat (need to base with him in order to attack)
- 10pt Damage Shield Feat (take an extra point of damage when attacked with team ability)
- 10pt Armor Piercing Feat (Always deal at least 1 damage, trait-ed poison is now penetrating, Damage shield damage is penetrating)
So that's 665 fixed pts
For the other points, I am currently leaning to Either:
- 208 Sauron - 335 pts (his epic action, with 1000 pt build total, make 5 opponents stuck/powerless)
Grab some PC and Support. Maybe AvX Scarlet Witch? She could also nuke Power Cosmic if you run into people playing Shi'ar Team Base or Malekith.
Fortitude might serve you better than Armor Piercing and Damage Shield. The random 1 damage probably won't make a difference, but immunity to Exploit(especially with Submerged on a water map) will go a long way. Camouflage also seems like a good investment if you can't get in water.
90% of rules questions are answered by RTFC. Most of the rest are answered by a proper grasp of English and common goddamn sense.
Hmmmm, so now I have to build a team to counter this!
If this is who I think it is, you could work to counter this... or let me have this one lol

I have been enjoying that Scarlet Witch. As for Fortitude, I was originally thinking it, negating exploit and outwit, but the 25pt cost is a bit much with the teams I've been messing with.
FI Attuma can shut down similar to Sauron at a fraction of the cost.
He eliminates POWER ACTIONS up to 6 squares away and only if in water terrain. This is also only on his first 2 clicks.
Sauron has it as an epic action every turn, anywhere on the map, 1 character per every 200 pt of total (1000pt) and it prevents movement and power actions

If you truly want to stick the other team every turn, I would drop some things off of Slattern to fit LE Edward Nigma. This would give you the ability to use Sauron's power every turn since Nigma can take every other token that would be given to Sauron.
One note: unless I've misinterpreted it, Sauron's Epic action is not the best choice for an environment you anticipate will be dominated by Team Bases.
FROZEN WITH FEAR: Give Sauron an epic action and choose one opposing character for each 200 points of the build total. Until your next turn, the chosen characters cannot be given move actions or power actions unless there are no other opposing characters.
Note the phrasing is "choose one opposing character," not "you may choose up to one opposing character." This implies, to me, that you must choose 5 characters at a 1000 point level game. Also note the last phrase "unless there are no other opposing characters." So if you freeze 5, and that's the opponent's whole team, none of them are frozen.
So teams with 5 or less characters are essentially immune to Sauron's Epic at this point level. You could run into a lot of that if you're expecting people to show up with full-blown 500 or 600 point Justice League, Shi'ar or X-Men Team Bases. Especially because with a 5 action cap, the motivation to play a larger roster is pretty limited. The TB, a secondary hitter or two, and support piece or two seems like it could be a common occurrence. Same for Colossals. Anyone bringing Ziran or Galactus? Shuma Gorath?
Just something to consider. If I'm not correct re: Sauron's phrasing, please let a more rules-knowledgeable person correct me, but that's how I've always read it.
I'm 98% sure that Sauron was ruled/clarified to be able to select his number of targets to avoid that exact limitation, ThePrinted6. As long as there are two members on a team, one of them can be Frozen with Fear.
I'll have to scrounge around to verify this, but as I said, 98% sure.
