Ok all We need to talk about POWER!!~ and why the Federation is being neglected. Yes we are getting ships in about every wave but we need something to bring us real cutting edge power so I present you this....
Yes she is beautiful and I feel that it is in fact a crime that she is not in my case. I need one of those. She is my favorite class of ship followed by the Defiant but I love the way it looks and it puts down the lie that Starfleet is not military. That class of ship is a war ship, it is made to destroy the enemy and keep the benevolent and great Federation of Planets safe from the galactic scum of the Dominion, Breen Cardassians, Gorn, Orions, Romulans, Remians, Tholians and Klingon. Also all the little unimportant minions out there. and of course the hellspawn Borg.
We need this ship is big and powerful while being agile. I am thinking a 5 attack and at least a 2 in agility. The Hull should be a 4 or 5 (maybe) and the shields should be just about the same. I know people are looking at the "E" but this is the ship!!!
I think the consensus is that the Federation should get at least 1 5 Dice attacker, maybe 2, and that should be the Enterprise E and/or Akira. But beyond those two the highest should still be 4 attack dice.
Sure. Did Tactics ever get an Akira? That seems like a good indication of whether we'll get one for AW. I would think the Akira would be a good OP LE candidate. EDIT Nevermind, I forgot we're getting several new molds (Scimitar, Gorn, Tholian, etc.), so that's pretty meaningless now.
The Akira and Soveriegn should be the Fed 5-dice heavy hitters, but that'll probably be it. I imagine we'll get another 4-dice ship (Voyager). The Federation faction is all about cunning crew strategies and secondary weapons, and giving them a lot of heavy hitters might make them too powerful.
I think they will mine the tactics sculpts for some time. I would love an Akira, but bad feelings tell me this might be an le.
So what haven't they used at this point besides the Oberth, Steamrunner, and constellation sculpts from tactics?
I have been wanting an Akira-Class for a long time in Tactics, it is one of the major holes missing from being able to reenact some of the major battles of the post TNG era that really lend themselves to fun big scenarios...
"Do you know what the chain of command is here? It's the chain I go get and beat you with 'til ya understand who's in ruttin' command here."
So what haven't they used at this point besides the Oberth, Steamrunner, and constellation sculpts from tactics?
The Saber class I think is the only other one, since we know the Sovereign and Intrepid are coming later this year. Did Tactics get a Steamrunner? I can't find one.
Prometheus, Sovereign, Saber, Oberth, Constellation and whatever the Raven is are the only non-shuttle Federatuon ships that haven't been AW'd or aren't coming down the pipe.
It would be cool to have the Thunderchild/Akira-class added to the game. I think it was the best looking of the ships they made for First Contact. I wouldn't expect it anytime soon though.
Besides the fact that they've still got several unused Federation sculpts to go through, there's also the issue of who the captain and crew would be. I don't think we ever see the interior of the Thunderchild or any other Akira. They were always just "extras" in fleet scenes. The Saber-class and Steamrunner-class have the same problem.
I also wouldn't count on Akiras having 5 attack dice. It could end up being very similar to the Breen ship. Three or four dice on the phasers, but lots of weapon slots for torpedoes. Maybe an ability on the named version (or an upgrade) that incentivizes taking multiple torpedoes.
At this point, I would be happy to get a Nebula class in general release. Either the USS Phoenix under Ben Maxwell or a general release of the Sutherland adding in a Captain Shelby (even if it isn't "official") and Lieutenant Atoa for us DS9 fans.
Just my two cents here, but I only want to see ships released that I have seen on screen.
As to the debate/opinion on Feds getting 5 attack dice and more 4 attack dice ships. I can see the big E getting 5 dice, and we've seen the Nebula class with a 4. But, I would be shocked and outraged to see a fast and maneuverable long range exploration ship like the Voyager have more firepower than a by design warship like the Defiant, or equal firepower to the huge Galaxy and Nebula classes.
