As some of you know, I was all about the X-wing vs Attack Wing debate. Which game was for what kind of player, differences in the sculpts, potential for abuse, etc.
My OPINION was that Attack Wing was easily set up for abuse similar to heroclix, in that it could be min/maxed with resource like elements that would create a breakable game. This, combined with the investment I had already made in X-Wing along with being completely off put at the Attack Wing sculpts, led me not to diverge into Attack Wing.
Recently I started getting into Sails of Glory (another flight system esque game that's set during the Napoleonic Wars). While I enjoy it, it suffers from what some other games do: the destroy the other side is all it takes to win syndrome.
In a thread discussing this, someone posted that's why they enjoyed Attack Wing, because it has scenarios where the players have to do more than simply blast each other into oblivion.
Doing a quick Internet search led me back to the realms, where these scenarios have been posted. They are all clever and true to the source material. These should have been at the forefront of the "attack wing is just for the competitive type players" argument, because clearly those in game design are attempting to include both groups.
Now, if only heroclix would get on board and include scenarios in every fast forces then we might be getting somewhere.

I feel both AW and XW have very good ideas in place with the scenario options. I do wish more events for both were centered on them. I enjoyed the challenge that AW setup right before Christmas of filming the Kobiashi Maru, that was a good idea and hope they decide to do sometime like that in the future.
There are still min/max teams, but for the most part with the expansions getting put out so fast (I'm happy with the release schedule) it's been able to make it so much easier to not see the min/max teams.

i love the scenarios, I actually find thema nice break from the "beat the other fleet" game. and the variety of scenarios is awesome
For our play group we usually do two events a month, one OP the other just casual. we have been rotating in more general versions of the scenarios lately, it has been a good time.
The universe is governed by a tendency toward disorder, we refer to the quantification of that tendency as Entropy Boston Heroclix

They definitely seem more in relation to the Star Trek source material. That was one of the things that seemed out of place to me in Attack Wing with so much initial focus on combat
I expect we'll see some pretty cool scenarios with the Tantive and Transport releases for XW.
Agreed.
Just reading the words "campaign rules" in relation to those products has me hyped.
I feel like the only game that gets good campaigns is Flames of War, as far as making a lot of players feel like they're contributing to a larger cause and the managing of resources. I hope FFG does some of that as well.
But hair10, you were right there with me when Attack Wing first came out. No one mentioned the attack wing scenarios at all when attempting to argue that the game was for casual players as well, or even fans of more traditional Star Trek.
I love the scenarios. We haven't done a ton of them yet, but they always spice the gameplay up. I agree that Heroclix should adopt the model. I've tried to work on smaller campaigns but something officially supported would be fun.

They do have a few:
LotR's fast forces had a flat out campaign
Both blitzkrieg packs for F Itself had scenarios as well
They just need a lot more. Like you said, "the adoption of the model."

The STAW scenarios seem very balanced. I have played them and they are generally fair for both sides (Kobyashi Maru the obvious exception.) Some of the FI sceanrios were pretty ludicrous and required a lot of outside investment to use properly. Many of the "required" pieces werent released when the packs came out.

Good to know.
Even owning both blitzkrieg packs I haven't looked at the contents of them yet (been a busy last half a year), so it's good to see feedback on them.
Yeah, the scenarios are what make STAW, for me. Even in OP, where the goal is still to knock out the opposing fleet, there are scenario-based objectives for added points, so it's not just a shoot 'em up, and they're based on memorable episodes of the show, which is fun for any fan of the series.
Waaaaaay back in the day, the old DC and Marvel-themed Heroclix map packs came with a bunch of scenario cards, and there were a lot of fun ones included. If you can get your hands on them, I'd heartily recommend it.

I love most of the scenarios in AW....most of them are easily identified from a specific show or movie (even if you're just familiar with them) which is an added cool factor to some......and the OP scenarios have been great seeing how different players and areas plan for each situation.
And while I'm still not sure about picking up the Rebel Transport and/or the Tantive (on account of their price tag vs how much I'd use them) I am interested to see what the can bring to XW with scenarios and the potential campaign rules.
But.........er......which of the current XW scenarios are considered good/fun?
I've tried most (before AW came out for the most part) and thought they were terrible. And not just a bit....like a waste of time terrible.
Which ones do other people find appealing?
It is almost upon us! Are you prepared for the Quarmageddon?

That's a good question.
I plan on asking my playgroup to run through a few of them in the coming weeks so I'll get back to you.
At first glance they are kind of bland.
GOOD THING X-WING AS A GAME BLOWS AW OUT OF THE WATER!!
I've only played the Xwing scenarios in the rulebook so far. They're......okay. Not great but not horrible. Their main purpose is to teach you the game with the three pieces the boxed set comes with.
We'll be trying the ones that came with the larger ships soon.
I've seen some scenarios in a couple of gaming magazines, so there are some other ones out there.
