1. Joni Mitchell - loved her voice here.
2. The Kooks - fun, bouncy tune.
3. Mazzy Star - I began to like this more as the song went on.
4. Phantom Planet - I've heard this one a bunch, not too bad
5. Flash And The Pan
6. Delta Spirit
7. Mylene Farmer - not too bad actually, just could have ended sooner.
8. Joanna Newsome (In) California - meh, got too "musical-ly" for me.
9. Hollywood Undead - Rap/Rock is hit or miss for me.
Lots of good songs here, and a wide variety of styles. Good job!
1- Phantom Planet- A young group but the song has a nice old school feel to it. Don't know exactly what I mean by that, but its a nice solid song.
2- Mylene Farmer- Maybe its because I'm sitting here during a snow storm, maybe its just because its a great song, maybe I'm just in the mood, but I really liked hearing this tonight.
3- The Kooks- I like this. Reminds me when I didn't care it was going to end, as long as it was fun while it lasted.
4- Joni Mitchell- Artistry
5- Mazzy Star- Its a very pretty song. Not my favorite of hers, but its very interesting, and her voice is so nice I still enjoy listening to all of it.
6- Flash And The Pan- I like the song, although it perplexes me a bit. Seems simple enough, but I get pulled in by the rhythms. Have to listen to it some more.
7- Delta Spirit- Not great, but not bad.
8- Hollywood Undead- I guess its just not my style. Sounds like lots of other songs I've already heard.
9- Joanna Newsome (In) California- Occasionally I feel like hugging a tree, but I have never been tempted to make love to one. This is not a compliment, by the way.
my wife:
Mazzy Star
Flash and the Pan
Mylene Farmer
Delta Spirit
The Kooks
Joni Mitchell
Phantom Planet
Hollywood Undead
Joanna Newsome
me:
Flash and the Pan
Mazzy Star
Phantom Planet
Mylene Farmer
Delta Spirit
The Kooks
Hollywood Undead
Joni Mitchell
Joanna Newsome
Both of us wanted to rate the Joanna Newsome much lower. That was 9 mnutes of agony. I expected more from the Hollywood Undead, but it sounded really generic (with a catchy beat).
In a perfect world I would have voted Joni Mitchell, Lenny Kravitz and John Mayall in the top three and the Beach boys somewhere down in the middle.
Joni Mitchell – Does anyone ever listen to her stunning guitar work? You wind up getting lostin lyrics and visuals and never quite sit back and think, damn, what gorgeous guitar work. So easily Number one on this list.
Mazzy Star – This song gives me hope.
Mylene Farmer - Sometimes all you need to be sexy is to be female and French. I have no idea what she’s singing about, but I want to get a bottle of wine, some paint and a beret and use the next building I see as a canvas.
Joanna Newsome – The Avant Garde, Kate Bush lover in me thinks this is great.
The Kooks – Why don’t you just name your band the Fools and do a weird take on the Talking Heads song Psycho Killer and call it Psycho chicken… The only think I liked about this song was the ska-like feel to the jangly guitars.
Flash and the Pan - wants to be rated higher, but it’s just not that good.
Delta Spirit – was okay, but it’s not on a level that I could relate to. The music was decent, the melody was ok and the hook wasn’t too bad. Just too Kidz boppy for my taste.
Phantom Planet – I just never really felt this one.
Hollywood Undead – This is the bottom of the list for me. I’m just way too old to get into this.
Mazzy Star - Ethereal and atmospheric. Like her voice.
Flash and the Pan - I'm not really sure how to classify this one, but it was interesting, in a good way. Lots going on to hold your interest kind of way.
Kooks - Upbeat and peppy, but kind of lacking the real hook that a song like this needs to really catch on.
Joanna Newsome - Hm, I liked the sound of it, but long and rambling it ultimately failed to hold my attention. I kept drifting.
Hollywood Undead - Surprised I liked this as much as I did. Not crazy for the lyrics, but musically it kind of grabbed me.
Phantom Planet - Perfectly listen to-able, nothing special either.
Delta Spirit - Kinda had a bit of an 80s feel, but nothing that's really going to stick with me.
Mylene Farmer - Sounded like background music for a commercial.
1) Flash And The Pan - They were the reason I thought of this match and I nearly panicked when there was no YouTube link. Anybody besides AlienFlanders know how they have ties with AC/DC?
2) Mazzy Star - This could easily be my number one/
3) Delta Spirit - I really liked this one.
4) Joni Mitchell - I don't like everything Joni does, but she has eight or nine songs I can get into.
5) Mylene Farmer - There might be an English language of this.
6) Hollywood Undead - I actually liked this more then I expected.
7) Phantom Planet - This gets played all the time at my work. I might have heard it too much.
8) The Kooks - Couldn't warm up to it.
9) Joanna Newsome - Went on too long.

I kind of figured I knew what it might be, and then I checked and I was right. You just to need to know a bit about the psychedelic era to get this one.
On the funny side, guess which one of the songs I can't listen to ? Of course, the French one, eh eh.
Using this to listen to Mylène Farmer: http://vimeo.com/56293069
(seems like the right version, IIRC)
Also dropping this here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piBNguFMPRc
(because it's another French song, with the same title - spelled in French rather than English, eh eh)
