For a third year running, Comic Accurate is all about showing love! We're going to once again spotlight some teams that involve couples from Marvel and DC! So break out the roses, chocolates and turn out the lights, because it's about to get amorous up in here!
(Author's Note: I know I said last time that this article was going to be about an X-Team, but I almost forgot about the annual Valentine's Day article. So while putting this together, the timing meant the X-team in question will have to be delayed. Sorry!)
There's many couples in comics that are well known. Green Arrow and Black Canary, Vision and Scarlet Witch, Cyclops and Phoenix. A lot of these pairs have figures made in HeroClix, even as duo pieces. But the beauty of the wide array of characters in Clix is that you can make many teams centered around romantically linked superheroes and heroines and then some!
Let's start in the X-Universe. There's been so many X-Men and X-Women that have hooked up at one time or another that their headquarters is less of a school and more of a gigantic dating pool. Like our cover couple, Wolverine and Storm. After the events of Avengers vs. X-Men, Storm and Black Panther have gotten an annulment. Their marriage is over but T'Challa would like to remain friends. He tells her to be happy and find love... with anyone but Wolverine. So you can guess what she does next.
(Special) Lightning Attenuation: When Storm makes a ranged combat attack, her damage value is replaced with 9 minus the number of squares to the closest target character, maximum 4.
Wolverine and Storm so far come out to 282 points. Feel free to choose whether you want them to be an Avengers theme team or an X-Men theme team. Either way, since they don't have any move and attack powers to start, I added on the Avengers Heroic Age ATA so after they move, they might be able to take a token off themselves (or just Storm if she carries Wolvie). Both have stealth on their first clicks so you might be able to force your opponent to get up close and personal (if you haven't already). For the last bunch of points, it's your call: Auto Regen on Wolverine or Armor Piercing on Storm.
Logan and Ororo wouldn't be the only members of the Jean Grey Institute staff to get together though. Iceman and Kitty started dating during the series (overlapping into issues of Astonishing at the time). It didn't work out since Iceman was self-loathing and immature and Kitty apparently became a moron, but you can relive the high points of their relationship with this team.
(Speed) Ice Slide: Iceman can use Leap/Climb. After his move action resolves, you may place up to two hindering terrain markers in clear terrian in squares he moved through or occupied this turn. Remove them at the beginning of your next turn. (Attack) Ice Cage: Iceman can use Incapacitate. When he uses it and hits, until your next turn, the hit character's speed powers are countered, it gains "boot symbol", and that character must break away for movement purposes.
(Speed) Intangibility: Shadowcat can use Phasing/Teleport and Stealth. (Attack) Disruption: Shadowcat can use Incapacitate. When Shadowcat is given a move action, after actions resolve, she can use Incapacitate as a free action to make a close combat attack, and she targets all opposing characters occupying a square she moved through that have the Armor, Robot, or Vehicle keywords.
This pair comes out to 174 points so far. There's really only one option for an ATA to maybe help things out here and that's the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division one on Shadowcat. Iceman can wild card it, so it can bump up Kitty's outwit range, or both their mid-dial perplexes. To round things out, I threw Stunning Blow on both of them since they each have incap powers.
A train wreck to be sure, but a slight step up for Kitty from her previous beau, the Metal Moron himself, Colossus. Who after making his latest error in judgment as a part of the Phoenix Five, wanted to redeem himself as a part of Cable's X-Force team. During his time there, he was back in his usual mood of self-flagellation, when Domino started coming on to him and they got together. Repeatedly.
(Improved) Mantle of the Juggernaut: Improved Movement: Ignores Hindering Terrain, Ignores Blocking Terrain and destroys Blocking Terrain as the character moves through it. (Speed) I Believe In The X-Men: Colossus can use Charge and Plasticity. If he has two action tokens, adjacent friendly characters that can use the X-Men team ability can use that team ability as a free action. (Defense) Steel-Skinned X-Man: Colossus can use Defend and Impervious.

(Attack) Lucky Shot: When she makes a critical hit, Domino increases the damage dealt by 3 instead of 1.
Together, they're 194. Add on the X-Force ATA to Domino, maybe Alias for Piotr and there you go. Colossus bulldozes blocking terrain and then Domino sits in it to block line of sight to him. If either get a little dinged up, they just use the X-Men TA to help each other out.
Not all couples in comics are such emotional disasters waiting to happen though. Some are just sorta creepy. Take in Geoff Johns' early JSA run. Stargirl and Billy Batson are the same age, so them dating wouldn't normally be an issue. But when Billy becomes Captain Marvel? It's statutory. Now enjoy bringing that uncomfortable situation to the battlefield to fight your opponents!

(Special) Cosmic Belt or Cosmic Rod: At the beginning of your turn, roll a d6 and Stargirl can use the indicated effects until your next turn: 1-2: Stargirl has a range value of 4 "two targets" and can use Combat Reflexes, Incapacitate, and the Sharpshooter ability. 3-4: Stargirl can use Energy Shield/Deflection and Ranged Combat Expert. 5-6: Stargirl chooses either result above. (Attack) Stunning Blow: When Stargirl uses Incapacitate, after actions resolve, deal her printed damage divided any way you choose among the hit characters. Stargirl can use the choosen power until your next turn.
Billy and Courtney come out to 292 points. Keeping them together to chain the 17 defense through the JSA team ability might not be as impressive, especially since you're going to be pushing Shazam as quick as you can to get him off that activation click. Though at her 75 point line, Stargirl will be getting good use out of her trait that'll give her a +1 to her attack when she's next to Shazam in addition to the perplex she'll be able to use thanks to her SP. If you want to fill out the last eight points, throw Protected on Stargirl.
Okay, maybe that wasn't the best couple to highlight if we're talking about a normal relationship. Plus, the set Stargirl is in isn't out yet. How about during the Brightest Day miniseries, when an alive Deadman dated an equally living Dove?

173 points so far. Now we could have used the 100 point Fast Forces version of Dove, which would have left us less points to fill, but it isn't that tough to do that with a much better version of Dove that doesn't require Hawk around. We slap the White Lantern ATA on Deadman along with Auto Regen, then add in the White Lantern special object, and now And Stay Down on Dove. So if you roll an eleven, you can deal an extra click of damage in addition to whatever Dove is doing.
Deadman eventually became dead... again... but up to that point, it was a fairly standard coupling. Now earlier in the article, I mentioned Green Arrow and Black Canary. But Ollie is not the only man that's ever been in Dinah's life. Around the time Superman died, Black Canary got involved in a relationship with The Ray while they were in the Justice League! Age ain't nothin' but a number here, I guess.

With only 26 points left to play with on this 174 point pair, we can add on the Justice League Silver Age ATA to each, then maybe Lunge for Canary and Auto Regen in the small hopes that Ray isn't knocked right past it to get KO'd.
Of course, not all love is the requited kind. For those of us that remember the old Super Powers cartoon, the evil Darkseid had a major crush on Wonder Woman. And in the first two parter of the series, he kidnapped her and brainwashed her to be his bride!

598 points! 599 if we add the Justice League ATA to Wonder Woman. It's our biggest build of this article. Yeah, we could have used cheaper versions of these two, and probably even a Darkseid that's currently available. But hey, go big or go home, right? Be careful with this team, since they're probably going to get out-actioned.
Our last team of the article is a reminder that not all love stories have a happy ending. Or even a well-written one for that matter. Like in the controversial One More Day storyline. Where Spider-Man and Mary Jane gave up their love to Mepisto in order to save Aunt May. So not only will our team have Spidey and MJ, but ol' scratch too!

This power can't be countered.
We're at 380 points so far, but adding on the Spider-Man Family ATA and Camouflage to Spidey and a Protected on MJ, you're now up to 399. It needs to be said that if you don't have the con exclusive Mephisto, you can just drop the Protected and use the old Secret Invasion version of Mephisto. I wouldn't. That piece stinks.

Set Ablaze: When Firestar hits with a ranged combat attack, place 2 Fire tokens on the hit character's card. At the beginning of your turn, give Firestar a free action and deal 1 damage and then remove 1 token from each character with a Fire token on its character card. An opposing character may be given a power action to remove a Fire token from its character card.
This team comes out to 385. Although, I might consider throwing a Nova Helmet on the team for good measure. If someone where successful at picking it up, it unlocks more potential on both them and Rich.
