is the splash from EE unavoidable or do i apply special defense as well?


example: character A gets a successful hit on character B and character C, D and E are nearby but D has impervious and E has super senses. do they apply or go right though?

Unless specified in a special power EE, damage from this type of attack in not unavoidable, nor penetrating, and neither is the splash damage from EE.

They apply. Impervious, Invincible, Invulnerability, Thoughness and Mastermind apply because you check them when the figure would be dealt damage, Super Senses and Energy Shield/Deflection apply because the figure is affected by an attack. Noteworthy is that Shape Change does not apply because the figure is not being targeted. Hope it helps, hope it is correct.

What about Mystics damage in the area of affect?

Mystics damaged by the AoE damage will deal their Mystics damage to the attacker, if they took damage. They were attacked and took damage and that is all that is required for Mystics to activate.

is EE optional? or does it activate everytime I do a ranged attack?

Yes, it is optional. It says "may include" for the area of effect.

Also of note, if the character has both EE and psychic blast, the damage would be penetrating.

ACTION. EE activates when the character is given a ranged combat action, not just when it makes any old ranged combat attack, such as the one allowed by Hypersonic Speed.

If you can use penetrating/psych and EE, is the splash damage also penetrating?
