ENERGY ABSORPTION: When Bishop would take damage from an opponent's ranged combat attack, roll a d6 instead: if the result is 1-3, he takes 1 damage. If it is 4-5, he heals 1 damage, if it is 6, he heals 2 damage.
So if Bishop was on a click where he has the energy absorption power would he also be able to use invulnerable from the Colossus shard?

Short answer: Yes.
The order of effect would be this;
-Opponent deals damage to Bishop via a Ranged Combat Atttack
-Invulnerability reduces damage by 2
-If Bishop would take damage after that, he then rolls the d6 for his Special Power.
More or less, they'd have to deal him at least three damage (unless they used Psychic Blast or Precision Strike) to even hope to harm Bishop at all.

Why is that the order? I thought it was "replace then modify"? Is there some reason that rule doesn't hold true here?

1) THE RULE OF REPLACE THEN MODIFY
Whenever a combat value needs to be calculated for any game effect, the controller of the character whose value needs to be calculated starts with the printed value, applies all replacement values in any order, then applies the sum of all modifiers to arrive at a final result. Remember that a locked value will override any other replacement values and modifiers.
Energy Absorption replaces the damage with a different effect, so you do that first. If the result is one damage, then you reduce that by two through Invulnerability.

Replace then modify refers to combat values, not special powers like energy absorption.

Bishop "takes" 1 damage. Damage taken is not affected by damage reducers. Reducers, like Invuln, affect damage dealt.
Visible Dials and Pushing Damage need to be optional. This is the way.

Replace then Modify isn't relevant in this situation. That's a modification. This would be a reduction. Remember that Invulnerability (and other reducers) affect damage dealt, not damage taken.
Bishop would need to "take" damage, which is calculated after its reduced by Invulnerability.
Additionally, his power states that on a result of 1-3, he takes one damage. There's no way around that; he takes damage.
Its understandable that its confusing. Its not as good as you're hoping it is, but make no mistake, combining the Energy Absorption with Invulnerability is very powerful.

Ok. This makes sense to me. Thanks for the replies.
from page 10 of the rulebook
"If a character could use multiple game effects that would reduce or
ignore damage dealt, only one of its game effect can activate, to be
decided by the character’s controlling player."
base on the following rule thing http://www.hcrealms.com/forum/showth...ADAPTIVE+ARMOR I will think it will be rule the same and this had a old rule guy saying yes, but that doesn't mean it is right, but I will think that both would be rule the same due to very mimmter wording

Invulnerability would kick in first reducing damage by 2. If there was still damage after that you would roll his trait. In Heroclix taking 0 Damage is NOT taking damage.
aqhoffman- greatest post possibly ever
jtallday- Jon I wouldn't challenge you if I wasn't sure you are wrong cuz I don't have that kind of energy.

I would say the rule would apply, since the power states:
ENERGY ABSORPTION: When Bishop would take damage from an opponent's ranged combat attack, roll a d6 instead..
...that means you are in fact ignoring the damage.
So, you wouldn't be able to use Invulnerability (reducing the initial damage) and then Energy Absorption (ignoring the remaining damage) in the same attack IMO.

Does the word "Ignore" appear anywhere in the text of Energy Absorption?
