Follow up to my battle report, making the 180 degree turn with the Rebel Transport
So in the thread about the Rebel Transport being available for purchase, I commented on a game I played where my friend used it. We played on the normal 3x3 play area and I noted that it was definitely confined quarters for a ship that turns so slowly.
Now that I have my own Rebel Transport in hand, I decided to measure how wide of a turn radius the ship has. My impression from the game, playing against the Rebel Transport, was that it seemed to need 18 inches to make a full 180. I was close.
At all speed 1 banks, it takes 6 movements to turn the Rebel Transport around. Once it is facing the other way, it measures about 13.5 inches from the outside of the base in the starting position, and the outside of the base in the final position. Here is a gallery of each position.
You might also notice in pic 2 that the back left corner is hanging off the edge of the table. Because of how the template works, it imitates drifting. You need an extra inch or so to the outside to even start moving. If you end up in a position where the edge of the play area is less than an inch away to the side, you will be unable to turn the Rebel Transport.
I didn't take a pic with the tape measure, but it hangs off about an inch. Same amount for 2 speed or 1 speed as well. Make sure you give your ship a buffer if lining it up on the outside.
So what about the 2 speed banks? That kicks the width out to just over 20 inches. Same number of movements needed, as both banks put the ship at the same facing, just makes it a wider turn.
