Has anyone tried it yet? Any thoughts on how to use it effectively? I am thinking you would need at least 3 of them to use the web to any great effect, but I think too many ships will be able to one-shot the Tholian ships. One possibility I was thinking of was using Tholian ships to create webs while some Breen ships focus on using energy dampeners to delay the blowing up of Tholian vessels and possibly forcing the enemy in to the webs.
I like the idea of the Tholians, but I think they need to package them somehow where you can get multiples to make any Tholian strategy viable and even then, I am not sure it can be done.
Justice for Jimmy Olsen!! Superman's Pal needs to be clixed!
It's definitely a bummer that it's an LE. It's pretty much an ideal swarm ship - cheap, weapon upgrade slots to make up for low attack, and agile. It's web will function as a pretty decent board control device, but you really need multiples that start immediately webbing. You can fit four in a 100-point fleet and that would be pretty fun I think. But probably not fun enough to spend the ridiculous price tag that AW LEs go for.
I won't be able to make my local event, but since I'll never amass enough of them to make a full fleet I'm not too broken up about missing out on getting one.
I haven't seen it yet, but it did look more like a swarm ship, and it's pretty sucky that they made it into a decently hard to get LE. The same goes for Bajoran freighters, though we'll be getting more of those later on. Do we have stats somewhere?
I think I would want to run at least three, if not four of them, together. As you point out, they're too fragile to rely in just one or even two of them; three or four gives you a bit of insurance that some will be left to spin the web even after one (or two) get blown up in the first pass. With that many of them, it seems like you could produce a pretty big, pretty lethal web. I like the idea of a Breen energy dissipator to trap enemy ships in the web, too.
I'm torn on them being an LE, though. On the one hand, I don't think it would have been a wildly popular ship had they released it for normal retail, so I kinda get the decision to make it an LE. On the other hand, it's a pretty lame move for WK to make a ship that is best run in multiples difficult to get. Given how small those ships are, I think I would have opted to make them the participation prize for this event (and function more like fighters), making it much easier for players to get their hands on a few of them, and make the Constitution-class Defiant the prize LE.
On the other hand, it's a pretty lame move foe WK to make a ship that is best run in multiples difficult to get.
Its not like they've got a history of making things you'd want multiples of as LEs or anything (Henchman, Web Terrain Markers, Superman Action Figure, Radar Monitor, con ex Belt items, etc).

Of your examples, I'll say that the two that I do know something about aren't quite comparable, in my opinion (not that I'm defending WK's track record on LE's...).
Henchman was an LE version of a figure that was represented in the normal set by the common Street Thug, and (to my memory) didn't have any particular appeal in multiples from a gameplay perspective. Thematically, I could get by just fine with a mix of the LE and normal versions, as well as the various other crooks/thugs that they've made for HC.
Web Terrain Markers were cute, but didn't actually add anything to the rules. You could just as easily get by with Special tokens from the starter set. To me, they're akin to the acrylic movement templates or evade tokens that FF is offering in their big X-Wing tournament. They're a nicer-than-normal looking game accessory.
Actually, those two represent what I think is the ideal implementation of LE stuff: alternate versions of non-LE stuff and stuff that is functionally the same as it's non-LE counterpart, but looks cooler.
I more-or-less quit playing HC before the others you listed came out, so I don't know what they are. If they're figures that you'd want multiples of because they work well together and there's not a non-LE counterpart, then yeah, pretty lame.

You're right about the Web Markers, but the Henchman had 6 "bad guy" keywords that the regular Street Thug didn't. For thematic teams, he was a good fig to have two or three of.
The Supes Action fig is one of Toyman's toys... and a really good one. The Radar Monitor is one of the best Utility Belt items, allowing you to gain the TA of an opposing fig (even an uncopyable one) for the duration of a game. And the con ex belt items are Utility Belt items that were only given away at Origins and GenCon last year (and to volunteers). A couple are really good.

I agree with Hellboy, flying two of them as support for another ship might work well, too. You really don't need to load them up with anything other than the energy web, my only concern with just two is that they might get shot down before they can make much of a web. Heck, though, at their point value you may well be able to squeeze three in as support for another ship.
I feel like they will play best at low points, in multiples against a single enemy ship. Like the show, really - two Tholian ships against one mid-range ship with more upgrades seems like it would be a pretty balanced match-up.
