RPSC: Future Foundation #3 - "Memories of the Future Past"
Hey guys. Jen here. Just wanted to check in real quick and remind you to read the end of last issue right here because this one starts right where the last one left off. Anyways, gotta run so I don't ruin the "tone" of the "narrative." Super serious storyline coming your way. Yaaaaaawn.

"Memories of the Future Past"
By Jackofhearts2005
"Let's see what other...details are floating around in your head, history walker."
Maximus closed his eyes. When he opened them, the throne room was gone. Soft blue carpet tickled his bare feet.
"Give it back, Franklin!"
Maximus walked down the hallway, passing a collection of picture frames inhabited by Valeria's family. Entering a bedroom off the hallway, he found Valeria, age ten, hopping up and down, trying to reach a notebook her older brother was holding over her head.
"I don't know why you like this so much," Franklin said with a smile. "It doesn't have any buttons on it. You want me to give it some?"
"Nooooo!" Val whined. "You don't know how. You'll break it!"
Maximus was about to move on when a purple hand large enough to hold a man crashed through the wall.
Valeria screamed.
"SURRENDER, MUTANT!" boomed a mechanical voice from outside the Baxter Building.
The boy smiled. So did Maximus.
"Get away from there!" Val shouted.
The boy turned away from the Sentinel to look at Val. "Forget it. I'm not backing down from the robot KKK."
The Sentinel's hand opened, revealing a transparent disk on its palm. The disk began to glow. Valeria barely had time to raise her force field before the energy blast covered everything more than three feet away from her with a wave of white heat.
"FRANKLIN!"
Valeria's voice echoed in Maximus's mind. As it faded away, so did the rest of the scene.
Around him, cold stone floors and walls materialized.
Valeria, age seventeen and wearing a blue uniform with a '4' on her chest, sat on a edge of a lumpy bed. To her left sat a young man dressed in purple. Shards of metallic crystal protruded from under his tunic and surrounded everything above his chest except his face, as if it was a monster trying to devour him.
"I don't know about this, Val," he told her.
Valeria brushed a strand of hair away from her face. "Kristoff, honestly. What's to know? The world needs Reed Richards and Victor Von Doom to work together." She smiled. "This will make them come together." She took his hand in hers. "Trust me."
Kristoff started to say something, stopped, started again and stopped again. He sighed. "I want to trust you. I do. It's just...I always get the feeling that you know something that I don't."
"Kris, I hate to break it to you but I know lots of things that you don't."
He frowned "That's not what I mean."
"I know you want this to be real." The frown became a scowl and Kristoff turned away. Valeria's hand on the side of his face brought him back. Ever so slowly, she moved forward to straddle him on the bed. "So do the whole planet a favor and pretend. Okay? We need this to look believable." She brought her lips to his.
"Disgusting," Maximus muttered to himself, wiping the image away. He probed further into Valeria's memories, hoping to find something more useful an less...base.
Blue skies appeared and Maximus felt the air rushing around him as the ground rose up to meet him and the rest of the group. Valeria, age twenty-one, touched down in the desert. Kristoff landed on her right and on her left, a tall figure in a green cloak did the same. Besides the dust-swept city in the distance, the only other thing for miles around was a middle aged woman with green skin lying in a fetal position on the ground.
Seeing Valeria, the green woman sat up. "I forgot about this scene."
"What's wrong with her?" Kristoff asked.
"Everything," Valeria answered. "Walters... I'm reforming the Fantastic Four. We need She-Hulk."
"Sorry, Val," the green woman said as she got up and dusted herself off. "Can't help ya. I'm not She-Hulk anymore. "
"Walters, please."
"I can't just go around punching things anymore. I've had 'character development.' I'm deeper, now. You know how it is."
Valeria buried her face in her gauntlet. "Can we just forget about the comic books, Jen?"
"You think I'm talking about comic books? No. It's worse than that. They're running the asylum, now. Just because they thought it was a good idea doesn't mean it won't be ugly. People will get hurt. I mean characters. I don't know what I mean. This isn't plotted very well."
"Do we really need this woman?" the hooded one asked. "She may jeopardize the mission."
"The mission isn't important," Walters insisted. "It's just foreshadowing. The important bit is to stall Maximus."
"Maximus?" the hooded figure asked. "Bah! She speaks nonsense. The mad Inhuman died by my hand."
"No..." Maximus ignored the crazy woman and instead floated towards the cloaked one, circling around so that he could see his killer's face. "Who are you?" He drifted closer, until they were face to face but his enemy looked down, causing the hood to shadow his face. "TELL ME WHO YOU ARE!" Maximus shouted, tackling the hooded figure to the ground. He struggled and grasped but in the end, he wound up clutching an empty cloak.
"Oh, Maximus."
He wheeled around. The others were gone. Only he and Valeria remained.
"This must be embarrassing for you."
"Who was he? You will...inform me. You will...reveal."
"Like I said, Max, it won't help you." Valeria told the Inhuman telepath as several copies of her materialized around him. Each one lifted her right arm and pointed all five finger lasers at the intruder. "You can only change the details. Now get the hell out of my head."
"No," he hissed. His body split in half again and again, forming a small army of new Maximuses. The Valerias opened fire as Maximus's telepathic projections charged each one. "If you will not...surrender your memories, I will...liberate them from you."
