So I realize most don't have access to the game just yet, but hopefully this 'soon' will be less of a wait that we have seen in the past.
So I've only been playing for a couple of days, but I really like it.......being a big fan of the FireEmblem (and other tactical games, for the most part) games, the idea of doing that with Marvel characters sounded really cool.
Add in the fact that until I jumped off the MAA train (not that I didn't like the game, I just had PC issues and when I got them resolved I didn't feel like going back) I really liked the game, the characters, the leveling, the SpecOps,.......heck even the item serching.....seemed like it would be up my ally.
And then it got released in Canada, so I got to start (right after they hiked up the CP price for most characters though ).
But I figured most of the MAA players, when the game opens up to them, will probably be giving it a shot, so we should have a place to talk about it............and seeing as Im playing it now I will offer a few of my current observations (keeping in mind that things will likely change fairly frequently.)
SHIELD points
Only accept them for now. They are used for leveling up heroes, and your grunt agents, and for upgrading your buildings (after the first few upgrades), adding new abilities to your characters (yes you can choose which abilities your characters will have, so your Spiderman might not have the same abilities as someone else's.........although I'm sure 'the best' abilities will be common choices, of course).
In fact I hit the SHIELD point crunch so much I was willing to do bad things to other players to get some........and then I found out that is exactly what you can do.
The PvP is different than MAA, where you raid other peoples bases (each building is a fight) and when you take out the last building you get a roulette with SHIELD points being possible(as well as new character abilities, but those are on most of the roulette's in the game). For taking out other building you get refined ISO8s and silver but I don't really think about that much..........and as far as I can tell if only costs your opponent some silver and or ISO8s.
Range over Close Combat
So far, that's what I'm seeing............maybe that won't always be the case as characters get increased movement (through various abilities and just leveling up) but it is at the point of the game I'm at.
For potential characters to look at early on as a result;
Cyclops 16 CP (also a potential free character choice)
Cpt Marvel 16 CP (also a potential free character choice)
Taskmaster 48 CP (unclocks after mission 4, IIRC)
I went with Iron Fist and Cpt Marvel as two of my first characters to pick up, Carol has been outstanding (keeping pace with IM who looks to be one of the best characters in the game from what I see and have heard)........Danny's been doing ok, but the extra movement he needs to attack is sometimes an issue.
The other 2 16(or Free) characters Widow and She-Hulk I don't have yet, although one of the locals did pick up Jen and said she was working out well for him. I'll pick up both after I pick up Spidey.
The big fight
I wont spoil it for people who don't want to know exactly what is coming up but there is one fight that most people refer to as the hard fight and usually gets people to turn around and LV up a bit before going after it again............for me (not sure if there are different versions) it's against 3 blasters and a bruiser....and the first time I played it I lost 3/4 characters before the end of the first round of actions. I believe I'm good to take it out later today though.
So yeah, new game, really liking it.............hope it opens up for the rest of y'all soon......and not 'soon'.

It is almost upon us! Are you prepared for the Quarmageddon?
Sounds interesting. I may end up playing this over the other game should it seem fun enough. I like the RPG stuff, but Tactics game-play is really my favorite style of RPG.
Is there a specific way to get into the Closed Beta or do I just have to wait til it hits open? Are they going to do a reset or do people in Closed Beta get a huge advantage over those who aren't?

No idea.....I think there are some Youtube vids about how to get into by adjusting your browser to be from one of the accepted regions.

So I was able to get through the first chapter (also the only one so far) and the hard level using Lv5 versions of Iron man, Cpt Marvel, Taskmaster, and Cyclops.
Also started upgrading my characters to lv6 and seeing their new power in action..........Cpt Marvel's in particular is very handy.
Also apparently Spidey and Doom will have to wait as my son informed me that we need to recruit Wolverine next.

I'm sorry, but Wolverine before DOCTOR DOOM?!?! You must tell that Child that ALL BOW BEFORE DOOM! Canadian Berserker Degenerates and all!
Meanwhile, currently on my second run (of 6) on Chapter 1. I've got my heroes (IM, BP and Iron Fist) levelled to the point that I don't expect further problems, at least until I get Spidey and have to train him...
Heroclix named Katana are surprisingly easy to decapitate...

You do make a valid point.....but this is how I think (and I believe Lord Doom would approve).
If I let the little one pick Wolverine then that lets me free to pick Doom (as happens in Dice Masters)..........and he will constantly see a fully armed and operational Doom, and learn to fear and respect him.
Also I'll have Wolverine at Lv 6 later tonight I think and see what his next power is like..............nothing to special yet I believe. His scrapper ability finally activated today so there is that.

Hehe, you keep making me want to play this, but I can't >.<
I don't know any of those games. My video gaming is MAA, Arkham games, Transformers and WWE games on my XBox, and Tetris. Sometimes I play Atari's "Adventure" on my phone when I'm in the can.

Hmmmmm, that's hard to explain 'Burglar.
The obvious comparison of Final Fantasy (being MAA) to FF:Tactics (to MAA:Tacctics) is the obvious explanation...but if you're not familiar......
Well it keeps a lot of similarities overall (deploy missions, CPs, Shield points, leveling up characters, the 5 classes and generalists) but where in MAA you have your agent and 2 characters (most of the time) vs the other side of the screen usually made up of several characters (sometimes waves)............in tactics you bring in up to four characters (you aren't an agent, but you can assign SHIELD agents if you like)........you know what.........I'll just get a vid link for you.
