REPLACED IT WITH A BROKEN FORGERY: When an opposing character with a relic or resource assigned to them makes an attack, that player rolls a d6 that can't be rerolled after actions resolve. On a result of 1-2, that player chooses one: remove the assigned relic from the game or remove an item attached to that resource from that game.
In this corner a jacket:
This character can't make ranged combat attacks and deals no damage when making a close combat attack. When this character hits with an attack, place this relic on the hit character's card.
As I read it, my understanding is that if I attack and hit with the strait jacket (thereby transferring the jacket to an opponent) and my opponent has the Cat in play, I would not have to make the roll to see if it was REPLACED WITH A BROKEN FORGERY. If I miss with the attack, I still have to roll.
We good?

Actually the timing looks different between the two. The Cat only cares that you make an attack, where as the Straight Jacket states that you must hit with an attack.
For the Timing you declare that you are making an attack against character X.
The Cat Activates
You roll the dice to see if you hit (lets say that you do)
Straight Jacket Activates and is placed on Character X's character Card
Attack Resolves.
Roll for Replace with a Broken Forgery.
Now if it is declared that these are simultaneous events (again I do not believe that they are, but as always I could be wrong) then they two effects would both still activate, but they would activate in any order decided by the player with initiative.
With that though, I will state that it looks to me like both would still activate and you would roll for The Cat's Replace with a Broken Forgery no matter what.

I don't think so. Broken Forgery is triggered by the attack. Even if the Straight Jacket is transferred, you would have to roll, and the wording of BF is that it is checking for relics assigned at the time of the attack, not for relics currently assigned to the attacker.

FWIW, I agree with Joe... Cat's power triggers when the figure (with a relic) makes an attack and then has an effect after actions resolve. As long as the attack fails (as that's the only way the attacker still has the relic), then it should work to roll the die.

It doesn't matter if the attack fails or not. The trigger was still met for the Cat's trait. Even if the attacker no longer has the Relic on his dial, but it still exists within the game you must still roll for it.
In other words don't play this Relic with The Cat

You'd think I would learn by now not to quickly read and respond to questions while I'm at work. LOL!!
Yes, after reading the full question, I agree with you. I was just focusing on the part about missing and thought that's what Joe was talking about without reading the rest of the impact of the question. Sorry about that.

It's this part that has me wondering. After the attack action is resolved, the attacker is no longer assigned the relic.

But the power refers specifically to the relic that was assigned at the time of the attack:

The power does not say "remove a relic assigned to the attacker" it says "remove the assigned relic." Straight Jacket was assigned to the attacker when Broken Forgery was triggered, ergo, it is subject to BF regardless of to whom it is currently assigned.

Right. It triggers during the attack (when the opposing has it) and it resolves afterward (whether it's still on the opposing or not). This is an odd combination, but it makes sense. :-s
