DISCOVERED THE EMOTIONAL SPECTRUM FIRST: At the beginning of your turn, choose a color other than white. Until your next turn, any opposing character within range and line of fire can't use powers of that color.
Had some questions come up last night at our first war of light event regarding this power.
This is what The situation was A player was out of range of The first Lantern and they wanted to know how the powers would work after coming into range and line of fire. The way I ruled it was that since the character would be given the action for charge before he came into range Charge would still be usable but Exploit Weakness would not be able to be used since with charge you make your move action then your attack so when he went to use it he would be within range of the power. Did I rule this correctly I just want to make Sure it is correct Going forward. Would Really appreciate an Orange Chiming it.
Yes you did, though, technically they could use Exploit, since it's not the same color as Charge, but I think I get what you're saying. This power works just like TT Gizmo, AvX Black Panther and AvX Prof X. It's an area of effect type power.
FWIW, I agree. If the one who controlled the First Lantern had said Green, the opponent could start from outside his range, Charge in with Super Strength (both Green), but couldn't use the object in the attack... actually, I'm wondering if the object would drop in the square that enters his range or if it just couldn't be used now. Would it drop?
On the flip side, let's say it was Brown... a figure outside of his range with HSS and Perplex can Perplex up a stat and HSS in to attack. This works because Perplex was used outside of the range (similarly to Charge or HSS in those examples).
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????

Correction. The effects of Perplex end as soon as you can no longer use it. So IF your Opponent calls Gold and you Self Perplex and then charge into the AoE then you would lose the stat bonus from Perplex as you can no longer use it.

True, true... I didn't think that through very well. So if another figure outside of the range perplexed up someone inside the range, then it should work as the Perplexer is still outside the range.
One thing to make sure of if your opponent has this figure, make sure you keep your OWer outside of his range or it'll be the same issue as what you stated with the Perplex failing.

Another question that came up was if you could use powers from white powers that normally would be associated with that color? I ruled that you could not, because you are still using said power, one of my players contended that no where does it state the power is green it just is the identifier for the dial and on a white power that would not be the same color.
And to note, I believe it can also affect powers that come from resources (eg. Utility Belt that shows colored powers on the dial). There has been debate over the years about these types of powers, but when a color is listed (as opposed to a named power), it's most commonly ruled that when a colored power isn't shown (eg. a power/relic/resource saying you can use a power name), it doesn't apply... so you couldn't prevent the RS/Charge from any of the hammers with this power (if it's ruled the same way as the others).

Is agree. I'd say on the PF for instance, it clearly shows the color and you can use that power. But this trait would restrict that.

Can you provide some examples of it being ruled this way? I can't recall it mattering before, though I'm sure it has.
The closest ruling I can recall is the difference between a defense power and a standard defensive power, but I'd like some clarification about whether or not the colour is inherent to a power.
Waller KOs: AA Robin, Kid Devil, Joker, Question; AW E Cap; FCBD Iron Man; Miracle/Oberon; John Stewart x2, Iron Patriot; Shatterstar; IH Herc; CW Photon & Nitro; FF Nite Owl; 10An R Thor, E Iron Man, Weapon X; FF Kilowog; Hugo Strange; Calender Man; Legion Cosmic Boy & Lightning Lad, LE Pete Wisdom

I'm guessing Malekith's ruling has some precedence.
Despite the PAC showing a section listed as Defense Powers, his "opponents cannot use defense powers" was ruled as only affecting the defense slot. So I draw parallel to not using X colour powers, which in the PAC are depicted as say Gold for instance, but in a white power are suddenly not Gold.

Which I mentioned, but it's not the same thing. The question becomes whether or not the colours are an inherent part of the power or not. And aside from White Powers, this also affects Indomitable, which grants the use of a purple colour power.

It hasn't mattered much, but on the Hammer Industries Saboteur (Horde token)... emphasis is mine:

I can't find the post at the moment (over 100 posts ago for me and my search-fu isn't the best right now), but it specified that it had to be the color, not the name of the power. The closest I could find in searching for it was the Orange Cat saying they would look into it as it was very ambiguous.

I drew the parallel because they are both things in the PAC which when in a Special Power do not reflect the PAC 100%. Whether this transfers from Defense powers to Power Colours is up in the air, but some precedence is still set through Malekith's ruling. If a special power changes the PAC's defense power definition, it may change the Power's colour as well.
