If Hasbro has taken ROM out of its licensing mothballs and dusted him off for a 35th anniversary Mighty Mugg... and we're getting Dire Wraiths, Ikon and Spaceknight generics in GOTG next month... I wonder if we're in for a surprise?

Not in a Marvel set.
And for the fact that Hasbro is NECAs big competition; probably not ever.
I've completed collecting the IC, CT, XP, CM, Ult, MM, FF, AW, Sin, SN, AVE, M&M, SI, HoT, WoS, GSX, CA, IH, GG, AVM, CW, M10th, ASM, IM3, WK11-16, FI, WX, T:DW, CA:WS, IIM, DoFP, DP, GotG, AoUM, AoU, AVAS NFAoS, CACW, UXM, SFoes, DXF, GotG2, ADW, WI, MT T:RM, AI SW:B, EX, ABPI and X:DPAS sets.
Looking to get PR Professor X (W/X-Men) and pre-release "IC" Wolverine.
I don't know which is more annoying, the fact that after 30yrs this is the best Rom merch they could come up with or that it's a con exclusive that's not nearly worth what it'll cost me to get it.
I didn't know if he was a rube, a souse, a wiseacre, a hophead, or a bright-boy, but I knew for sure that I didn't like him.

Maybe we will get lucky and Either Hasbro or NECA will buy up the other company?
If Hasbro bought NECA, which I doubt they would, they would probably absorb the general merchandise and kick WizKids into their Avalon Hill brand (under WoTC).
That could open up NECA/WK to M:tG and Pokemon merchandise/games, but I really don't see that happening. I have no basis for this other than "my gut".

A new ROM figure would have been awesome. It could have had 36 points of articulation (31 more than the original), USB plugged into laptops/mobile devices, lasers, shooty guns, all kinds of crazy stuff!
Instead, a Mugg. Those things make no sense to me. I can't justify buying one. Ever. I just don't get it. I already have enough useless crap sitting around, so useless crap that just sits there and doesn't do anything just doesn't warrant my disposable income, anymore.

I've been wondering why Hasbro has been holding onto this license for so long. I would think they would just sell it to Marvel to make some fans happy.

Well put.

Sometimes companies hold onto things that they have no plans for just to make sure no one else can do anything with them, or because they are evil.
That must be why we still have no Micronauts!

seems a little strange to me.
Isn't a figure (even if articulated, even with any USB anything in it) the quintessential "useless crap sitting around" anyone can buy ?
I mean... It has NO purpose (except entertaining) and seems in no way different from any other time of figure/mugg/merchandise i can think of.
I'm puzzled.

That is one of the (many) stupidities of a capitalist/consumer-based society.
(and yes, other societal models are possible)

My attitude is easily explained by the fact that I open my action figures and play with them.
Action Figure: sits there until I play with it, at which time it becomes pure-awesome! Hulk smash! Pew pew pew.
Mugg Thing: Do they even move? Can I get one to put Gray Hulk in a choke hold? Can they bicycle kick Galactus in the face?
So, Action Figure, useless crap that gets played with, and looks nice on a shelf.
Mugg, useless crap that looks nice (I guess) on a shelf, can't really play with it.
Action Figure > Mugg. *pew*pew*pew*

I heard from Tom Scioli at a con that IDM is supposed to be getting the rights to do a ROM comic. I'm all about it.
Yeah, but since they can't really use any of the rich history, supporting characters, enemies, or other concepts developed by Bill Mantlo over at Marvel, it won't really be recognizable, to me, as Rom.
It will be like those old "Just Imagine..." comics in which DC had Stan Lee take the names of their classic characters and reimagine them as something else completely. That's what IDW will have to do with Rom.
...now, if we can just get Professor Pyg confirmed.
That is one of the (many) stupidities of a capitalist/consumer-based society.

Or they realize that there just isn't enough market interest to invest the capital into making the Rom minority happy. It's actually quite intelligent capitalism.
So I blame all of you for not nerd raging enough about this to make it look like a good investment.
