I did not dislike it before or after I saw it in the theaters, and I'd watch it again.
But the critics disagree with your assessment and I'm finding it difficult to counter their points. Omar Sharif himself lambasted the thing after being in it, and he was Zhivago after all.
But he cut into McTiernan in the process and he gave me Predator, Die Hard, and The Hunt for Red October. And I love those, especially Red October.
Then again, he also did Last Action Hero, Die Hard with a Vengeance, and The Thomas Crown Affair, so maybe, like Lucas, something snapped and the guy who gave those great movies to me no longer exists.

I don't place much stock in what critics have to say, nor do I allow their opinions to influence my entertainment choices. Note how often they lambasted a movie on release, only to revise their opinion after it becomes a "classic". I'm reminded of the MST3K bit in which they listed highly praised movies that Leonard Maltin rated lower than Laserblast.

I like all three of those, and in fact I love Die Hard with a Vengeance, the only worthy Die Hard sequel.
Also, sometimes critics can be right in all their individual points and still miss the big picture.

Great MST bit. REP.
Laserblast. Heh.
Case in point: Big Trouble in Little China.
I've liked the film since I first saw it and it kinda bugs me that everyone has "come around" on it. I presently think it gets higher ratings than it should and I love the movie. I'm thinking "hipsterism" is factoring in here somehow.

I haven't seen all of Vengeance, but I like the first two sequels. I'm not saying they're good. I just like them. One could easily point out reasons for them to be bad for which I would have no counter argument.

I don't know about Maltin in particular, but there was a time when it was best to know which critics you should NOT listen to when picking movies to watch, but that was before the internet.
I forget who they were, but back when there were movie critic shows and all, I totally knew who regularly hated stuff I liked and liked stuff I hated.
SkinaMax is playing a Godfather (All three) marathon followed by A Clockwork Orange, and then Pacific Rim (Job).
?????????????????????????????????????
Isn't that a bit like a scoop each of Oberweis Chocolate, Vanilla, and Strawberry, (III is the vanilla) along with a perfectly ripened banana, copious amounts of whipped cream, chocolate drizzle, and crunch topped with turds instead of cherries?
Before anyone goes defending Pacific Rim (Job), I own and enjoy several movies that should also not be played in that time slot.
Select from below:
Jurassic Park (any)
The Golden Child
The Rock
Con Air
Predator VS Alien
The Last Dragon
