Quick info about me. (since it been a long time I sent you guys a message) I am from Vermont, but move to Japan 9 years ago....
I use to play heroclix a long time ago. I follow you guys to keep up to date what is happening in the heroclix world. I started playing heroclix with Hypertime...and stopped playing at Icons. But I still love the game and try to keep up what is happening in the heroclix world. The reason why I stop collecting and playing is that they don't sell them here in Japan. Wish they did, because the Japanese kids here love comics and they know the Avengers, Spider-man, Batman and Superman.
That was true for a long time...until last week when I found a store that had heroclix in Japan. This store had 2 boxes of heroclix
1) Kick Ass 2 (one box)
2) Batman Classic TV (one box)
The clix were under some graphic novels and I could tell the store had no idea what they were....
The store was at a mall and sold every strange things....
so no it was not a comic book store.
They kept the boxes low and hard to find.
So no starter kits, no maps....so if some kid walk in and saw them and bought one they would be clueless to what to do with the heroclix.
(no hints on how to play....nothing)
Bad news
The price....
guess how much they sell each pack of one figure....... Remember no booster it was the gavity feed
(please make a guess how much one pack costed for one figure for one of these sets and then go down to find out how much this store is charging.)
1059 yen.... and in dollars go down more
that is about $10.59 for one clix which you don't know in the pack....
And today I went to another store that sold toys and games but not comics also had the batman classic set....good news it was cheaper, but not by much. That pack cost 822 yen, so about $8.22 for one heroclix. Still no maps, no starter sets and no boosters.
Last podcast you were talking about how to get people into heroclix and the way they doing it here is not good, so I can now tell you yes Japan now have a some heroclix, but the stores which sell them must just got those boxes and put on the shelf and no clue what they were.
So what do you think about they way they trying to introduce heroclix in Japan? (Just a not I did go to the wizkids website and look up which stores sell them and it gave me 2 which is 90 mins away by train. (I live in Tokyo.) So no idea what these stores have or even if they have a place to play.
Also since I am writing might as well as you the same questions I ask other heroclix podcast to see what you say....
For the questions:
1) Which power or abilities combo (example super strength and charge) do you like the best and which heroclix does that combo the best?
2) Who is the best tent pole heroclix in 300 pt game and who is the best tent pole heroclix in 400 pt game? (one man army)
3) Since I left heroclix they introduce a lot of new game elements, which elements do you think help the game and which one hurt the game. (remember when I left the game we had only battlefield card and fleet cards)
4)what set would you like to see but you know you never see it happen. I got 3 sets I would love to see and I know it would never happen. Here are my 3 sets I wish they would make.
A) Crossovers set (all duo figure which has Marvel and DC on it and must of come from a crossover comic from Marvel and DC)
B) DC vs Marvel set (base it on the 1995 Marvel vs DC limited comic)
C) Amalgam set (I want a Dark Claw!)
I started with these products before Heroclix, when the first Clix came out- they were called MageKnight.
I was a Wizkids volunteer back then, before maps.
The game used 1inch = 1move increment, so a move of 12 would be 12 inches. Lines of fire were done with pieces of string and our maps were 3D objects for terrain or cutout colors for water, etc.
Using the Internet and finding this site means you can play, the old way, or by getting some printed sheet paper for maps.
Best suggestion that I can make is have the store contact Wizkids and ship maps in. But you have to buy them then.
glad to have you back. looking forward to the next episode and getting into your thoughts on some of the newer stuff (hopefully not just gotg: I haven't bought any cuz the characters don't interest me for the most part).
