Are Tabapp figures with the second, bottom portion of the base removed-- the "app interactive" portion-- legal for official WK tournament play, or would they fall under "modified" status? Legal for ROC?
I was curious, as nothing is being added or replaced (modded).
From the WK comprehensive tournament rules: "The dial and figure base must be unchanged from its original form."
Technically, all it would take is a dink opponent claiming your tabapp isn't legal to a dink judge that upholds that claim to establish the dinky precedent.
Thanks! It's been a while since I used my Tabapp figures; I left them in their original state, thankfully.
In addition: Would a figure that was pulled from a booster missing certain sculpt elements be tourney legal (i.e. no head, missing arms, etc.), or does a player need to seek out a "complete" version of that figure?
Okay, check it out. Here's the entirety of the WK comprehensive tournament rules regarding customs which also apply to ROC events:
Quote
1.2.12 Custom Sculpts: Venues may restrict or allow the use of custom sculpts for their events. A
WizKids sponsored event will permit custom sculpts to be used with the following
provisions:
1.2.12.1 The dial and figure base must be unchanged from its original form.
1.2.12.2 The sculpt cannot be considered to be a deliberate attempt to misrepresent the
capabilities of the played figure. The head judge is the final arbitrator of this
decision.
1.2.12.3 The player must have the figure available with the authorized sculpt.
1.2.12.4 Each round, the opponent must be given the opportunity to deny the use of the
custom, in which case, the player must accede.
I read through the official policy, earlier, but wanted to gauge the public's opinion, in the event that players have used customs or characters with QC issues in tournaments, recently.
No reasonable person would take issue with a damaged figure. It would take a special kind of scumbag to get an opponent disqualified for a broken fig or a tabapp without the superfluous rubber feet.
Actually, those rubber feet should be considered part of the figure base since they are special editions of the game that you play on tablets. Thus any attempt to remove them should be a violation of 1.2.12.1.

Yeah, okay. Sure, buddy. Whatever you say.
The HeroClix specific portion of the dial is not modified. TabApp does not use authorized HeroClx rules. Heroclix does not use the TabApp rules, or whatever that is so the TabApp portion is superfllous.
I'm sure there is some absurd semantic argument whereby you'd end up being "correct", so I keep 2 versions of any TabApp I'm likely to use in a tourney (athough that doesn't happen much lately).
There's no difference between this and a sculpt swap. In both cases the difference is almost entirely pedantic.
If the question being asked is "what is the rule?" Then the answer is perfectly clear. This would be downside red modified.
If the question being asked is "what would you do?" Then the answer is only a sick would make a fuss about a mod (unless said mod is legitimately confusing) anyway.

It's still part of the base is it not? If a TabApp clix is going to be used as a heroclix figure, then the base shouldn't be modified, that's my view of it. Being judgmental of a person's opinions, especially if they differ from your own is really being out of line.
Regardless, I said should for a very specific reason here. I know that there will be players who don't care about a disfigured clix, and there will be judges who feel the same. I personally witnessed such events. The point is that the OP should check with his venue to see if those clix would be legal for use above all else, and if another player has an issue, bring it up with the judge.

The biggest visual detractor to Tabapp figures is how high the figure rise off the map, or sits slightly uneven on the surface. I've grown to like the sculpts.
Modding them ultimately isn't a good idea unless you can afford duplicates (for lax venues or home games) or want to go through the trouble of removing the bottom portion of the bases.

The bottom bases actually remove pretty easily. Three pegs that snap if you slide even a butter knife in between the sections.
I originally had two of each of the TabApp figs I wanted to have, just to follow the letter of the law. Then I realized how silly that was and ditched my duplicate set.
