Perplex affects any printed combat number on the dial. By combat, i mean, it can't be used to affect a character's point value. But it can raise/lower Movement, Attack, Defense, Damage, and Range.
Since it doesn't use an action, it can be used with most powers. The exception being RCE and CCE, since these powers will not work with other powers, so to use one of these means the attacking figure's dial cannot be altered by perplex. I'm not sure whether the target's dial could be altered, such as lowering their defense so another character can use RCE/CCE. I would think it could, since the Perplex power isn't being used on the character that is actually doing the RCE/CCE, but not positive.
Not sure about bolts, but think it's restricted to numerical values.
Numerical value is how it affects other powers. RS/Charge by perplexing the piece's Movement, or Superstrength by perplexing the piece's Damage, then attacking with the object(close combat, only way to perplex SS throwing an object would be to raise Attack or target's defense).
Perplex also works on either your piece's or your opponent's. This is helpful for times when you don't have LOS to your piece, but you do have LOS to the guy he's hitting to lower defense.
Plus good for healing, lower the healee's defense so the healer has a better chance of success.
Perplex can be used to lower the targets stats in an RCE/CCE attack, w/ the caveat that the attacking figure cannot be the one using the perplex. Usually not an issue, since these powers are all in the damage section of the dial and therefore couldn't exist at the same time, however, there are the occasional scenarios that give extra powers to characters, and in these cases, the attacker couldn't also use his perplex. The same can be said for outwit and the superman enemy team ability.
Because Support can not be used with any other power. The character with support or the target can not have their numbers affected in any way when healing or being healed.
Bah. The Support one threw me off. Haven't saw the FAQ yet, only the powers card from IC starter set. Card only says neither healer or healee(dunno if that's a real word but it is now) can be basing an opposing fig, but only powers it says can't be used in conjunction with others were RCE(being that there was no CCE in IC). Didn't know Support was given the same handicap as the Experts. Guess it's not a bad thing, Support can be devastating as is. Nothing funnier than when my opponent heals his near dead Darkseid for 6. Not so much funny haha, more like funny $%&##%#.
Though i hadn't thought of it before, would prolly also stop Defend from making an easier heal. Didn't think of it til was trying to think what powers other than Perplex could alter stats, but what a nice move it would've made. Damaged Invis Girl uses Defend on damaged Superman to drop his defense from 17 to her 15 before medic tries to heal him. And i would've gotten away with it too, if not for those meddling kids and their talking shark.
If you check the beginning of the rulebook, a figure's 5 combat values are defined as range, movement, attack, damage and defense. Those five are the Perplexable values.
You can't perplex damage if you're using an Energy Explosion or Pulse Wave attack. To increase the damage on these two powers, you must use S.H.I.E.L.D. or Enhancement.
