Deconstructing Rules! - Article Archive and Requests for Topics
So the current HCRealms Rules team has been putting out our articles on Rules Questions/Issues for what we considered to be important topics.
I plan on putting my next article up tomorrow evening and hopefully it will be on the front page Friday or Monday.
With that though, I started thinking (which is always dangerous) why should these articles be what WE think should be covered. These articles are not for us, they are for you.
With that I would like to know what Rules based article you would like to see. This could either be an article about an area that confuses you personally or one that you think we need a document on for others.
Before you post your response though, please keep in mind that this should be the topic of an article. I cannot write an entire article on "Can I use Close Combat Expert and Charge?". I could write an article on "Please breakdown what Powers work together and what Powers cannot be used together."
There is a big difference there.

On a similar note, there's a lot of existing videos/articles out there that are useful for beginners who are learning the game, but what about an article on how to teach beginners the game?
I know the easy answer to this is "Tell them to read/watch this video/article". Aside from this often being an unrealistic option, it doesn't take into account all of the concepts players pick up with their early games from the person teaching them and/or their opponents which can be helpful or detrimental in the long term.
So one specific aspect of this might be what not to do, for example avoiding explaining things in ways that are easier to understand in the moment but lead to future confusion and avoiding using terminology that does the same.
It has become an issue with outsiders coming for the big events and all of them say different thing regaurding this. Im talking about colossal size. What it can do, how is its line of fire blocked, is it taller than out door blocking?
The "may" in the LOF as if on higher elevation in giant size...... makes no sense. Who gets to decide the may? Can the controlling player just decide he can't be seen as if he was an elevation higher?

The problem with simpler wording is sometimes someone takes issue with phrasing or misinterprets what you are trying to say
I am mulling over a few ideas as well- what would people like to see
1. Actions vs. Attacks: What can I do
2. Evolution of Mind Control and What to do with it now
3. Damage: Reducers, Ignores, Modifiers, dealin' the hurt
specifically:
- restrictions on carrying
- are there carry situations where characters could be given an action
- do objects affect carry at all
- using carry while being given a move/attack power like running shot or charge.
I understand most of this, but every now and again an issue comes up that I think i'm figuring out right, but I worry I might have stretched the rules a bit.
Elevations, lines of fire, and various sizes of characters.
Alternately and overlapping quite a bit, just a thing on different sizes and all the ramifications of same.
I would like to see the above. I have had many times where someone asks me why he can't draw a line of fire from level 1, to a colossal on level 2 when the colossal isn't on the rim of elevation.

Elevations, lines of fire, and various sizes of characters.
Yeah, this is a great one.
Especially now with the Colossal size Battery on the map with the month 6 WOL Pyramid.
Blocking between Battery and Level 1,
Battery seeing all levels, but not past and down.
Battery seeing past figures to other figures and vice versa.
Giant characters like Spectre and what he does to all the above situations.
And one on Teambases.
Especially taking off figs, putting damaged figs back on,
and the Errated rules on # of actions per turn.
When a Solo adventure takes place after a move or after an attack.
A lot of people don't want to play with, or against TBs because they don't know all the rules/tricks.
