With my new game starting up soon (insert shameless plug), I am hoping to attract new blood and maybe revitalize a dying section of HCRealms. But luring new people to this odd little corner may be easier said than done.

So... I am asking those who are relatively new here, how did you stumble upon this section? What was it that made you click in here and try it out? I'm curious.

I know I was here since nearly the beginning, when mafia games where played in the general off-topic section. That is how I found it. But a lot has changed since then. Hence the thread.

The mafia forum just always seemed to stick out. I went and tried to figure it out once a few years before I started playing, but it didn't click with me. Then I went back and looked at it again, and decided I wanted to play it.

I assume we're not allowed to just straight up advertise in GD or other places, right?

No, I don't think we are.

I spent a lot of time reading the other boards in pop culture (other than political) and figured I'd venture in here. I played some games YEARS ago when I was too young to have any business playing over on MTGSalvation and thought it was time to give it another go. Signed up and now here I am.

If you've got 45 or 50 players, then hell yes. The bigger games are so much fun.

I wish. 30 people is my ideal. That's a good size to give me lots of options as a mod. More people means I can get creative with roles.

Same, the more the better. I found this place because while perusing the trade forums I saw a link to Quebbster's Eddie Izzard mafia. I clicked it and read through the rules. I've played a ton of in-person mafia games so it was pretty easy for me to slide in.

I may not be who you're looking for here, since I've been playing before there was a Mafia section, but I do remember how I got started. Mal was running a Silver Age Legion game and Rokk dragged me into it.

And yes, that very first game is where I first developed my hatred of cults

Immortal_Raven told me about it and I found the idea interesting.

I pulled him into clix and the FPL, and he pulled me into mafia as a retort.

While interesting, I'm not sure if any of this helps me find more people. I wish there was an easy way to find interested parties.

Another idea is to take advantage of publicity. What is hot right now? Terminator? Arrow? Atach something cool and hot to the tag line "you dont have to know anytging to play this game! Be Arroe or John Connor now!"

Was chatting with K-Ness over in the ogre thread, I think, right when he was advertising for his X-men game. Subbed in as a replacement couple time, and read a bunch of old games as a crash course.

I tried to determine this before. Really, the only way to promote is to put something in your sig that makes people interested. I, too, wish there was a better way. Typhon wants the site to remain dedicated to Heroclix for the most part. I think he thinks we're a bunch of hooligans. I even tried to get an article on the main page to attract attention. No deal. If someone wants to make another attempt at that, I say go for it.
