ok, on my rules card under mastermind it says
'...can be inflicted instead on any friendly character with a lower point value in an adjacent square.'
and yet, on the official FAQ it talks about (e.g.) Joker masterminding his damage onto Superman. I see this could work if you have Joker and Superman on the same team, BUT... all the versions of Supe's are at a higher point value than all the Joker's. How can this be done? and is it no possible to pass on the damage to a non-friendly adjacent character as thats what i've been hearing lately???
The example is currently in error (unless new versions of those characters come out but even then it would be misleading). Dr Gandalf compiled a list of FAQ booboos like this (with the help of the judges who post to this site and wizkids of course). Whether it will be fixed by the next FAQ or before any new rulebook remains to be seen.
And you can't mastermind to a non-friendly character and never will (otherwise close combat would be pretty useless against any character of a higher point value with mastermind as you'd just be hitting yourself, and that would be bad for the game).
