Fun listen as always. I'm a little sad we missed out on one of our ROC trinity but what can you do.
You're certainly right about Weasel, he's my crutch. But unless I wanna play the same 10/11/18/4 characters that everybody else does I gotta get my stats from somewhere, and he lets me do it on the cheap.
While my matchup with Elliott could've gone the way you described, that's a lot more luck than I'd prefer shooting against defenses that high. He did get map choice and took me to Ranx so it wound up being a brutal positioning battle. Thankfully he didn't switch to the spotlight before he moved up on his first turn so I was able to count on my stealth keeping me safe and advance as far as the bike can move. His next turn he clears and blocks any easy lines of fire with Abin's free barrier. I actually don't want to hit Kyle to his godhood in this kind of matchup until I'm ready to deal with him so my thought is to take out a wall with Bizarro opening up a LOF allowing Doctor to get 1 shotted by Captain Marvel. In a perfect world I would've EE splashed Kyle for 1 as well putting him on his much less scary 2nd click but he hit his Super Senses. The way I positioned I had to leave Engineer vulnerable and Elliott goes for a potentially game winning shot perplexing up attack on Kyle and targeting both Engineer (17) and Captain Marvel (19). If he hits Captain Marvel then I'm going to lose his best attack clicks, his defend, and the splash is going to cripple the bike and Weasel. Thankfully he just hits Engineer and puts her on her last click. If I'd been in his shoes (knowing Engineer's dial) I might've just upped damage and gone for broke, if the dice are with me then either I hit Marvel that much harder or I actually 1 shot Engineer rather than leaving her alive. As it is he tries to finish her off with Abin Sur and manage to Super Sense out of it. After this I'm able to play it a bit safer and I take out Abin while his Kyle tries to fall back from the pressure my team is putting up. Because he still had the shield I was actually very very glad I'd managed to Super Sense out of the finishing blow on Engineer because I can then poison to click 2 with Engineer while he's double tokened, and then after he clears poison again (3), first with Engineer, then with Harley (4, past godhood) since it is penetrating damage. After that I did go for the coup de gras hitting with Marvel's PPB (13 on a 20 with a prob)
Dan your summary of my match with Cesar was just about spot on. He got map roll and went to Crime Alley. He moves up to one of the enclosed theater on my side and I put pressure on him taking a pot shot after blowing up 2 walls, I miss because of his great D. At that point he played his team in a way which would work against the vast majority of teams, I just had the adaptability and luck to really punish him for it. He carried up his team basing my Engineer with Dex (who just pushed to poison) and the spiderbot. Spider-bot is in the middle of his formation, my luck really kicks in when I roll Bizarro onto a sidestep click. My Harley was too far away to do anything really meaningful, until Bizarro got sidestep. I pick poison with Engineer making a hole in the middle of his group by taking out the spiderbot, and then Harley sidesteps into that hole and I deal out 5 clicks of damage without even needing to roll any dice. This puts Dex on his last click where he doesn't have poison, and Harley is on her middle click where she doesn't have it either. I follow up with a RCE from Bizarro bumping his attack +3 overall (weasel) and it's a fairly easy dice roll to KO Despotellis (even with normal poison his sickness follow along power made him a threat). After that nothing really went Cesar's way, from me scoring a crit hit on his Marvel to him rolling low on anything he needed to try and keep in the game. I really credit Cesar's composure here as I'm sure there's more than a couple people who might've reacted poorly to a Final Table that you battled that hard to get to and then have it just fall apart like that.
Trent Lloyd was my traveling buddy on this trip, I was very proud of his performance getting to #6 and there's no shame losing to the eventual #2. There were some nuances to his team that made it a lot more deadly than it appeared and he wanted me to post this for him since he can't log into his account.
"My team was all about taking care of Kyle Rayner and Super Skrull in one turn and it did it with mostly ease, although I only faced one of each. I went 4 and 1 in the swiss rounds and my one loss was due to failing to call the pact on a Kyle Rainer which I still stood a very good chance beating until I goofed my positioning. I never once doubled up stats on any clix with Highfather's "ZAYA, THE CREATOR" I used his TK to send Star-Lord out after I used Blind Al's perlex to his range so he had 8 range, then I selected my square for his trait and running shot PW back next to my double prob. Since I'm pulsing through my selected square they are safe from it, 13 squares away from you or 14 (Halfway across the board) if I to really need to hit you before you got closer to me, 9 movement RS (so 5 squares) and eight range I'd TK 5 or 6 squares out. After my first PW hits, Mantis then MCs Star-Lord to follow up with an additional PW (which isn't a once per game effect, only the choosing of a square is) If Highfather hit leadership and Bizarro rolled good he would follow up and the was usually the game right there. My next turn Highfather was able to push after a support on Star-Lord I would use Blind Al's "OLD-BOOBY-TRAP" to move Mantis out of the starting area and have Highfather tk Star-Lord out next to her, Mantis would MC Star-Lord and choose the square for Star-Lord's trait and Star-Lord would follow up with a PW (three pulse waves from a once per game effect). Mantis could push all day due to Star-Lord's "LEADING THE ATTACK" and she could support Star-Lord or regen while Highfather would support the other. Bizarro was there due to how amazing he is for 25 pts and Blind Al for her perplex and you're coming to me due to Highfather, Mantis for her mind control shenanigans and she is slightly good for up close combat or her 7 range MC, my team was amazing and at lunch time everyone was asking me to explain my team for them. My loss in the top 8 was all to penetrating poison, before he got to me I hit his whole team with a double PW, I even hit Despotellis so his whole team was hurting due to almost all his characters were 4 or less clix and after that my dice went completely cold and he outplayed me."
