Are monster and Character the same? can something that affects monster affect char and vice versa?

Also are sidekicks monsters/chars?

At my venue, that's what we've been playing. Same thing for "summon" and "field".

I was watching a demo video of Dungeons and dragons, and they were saying how there was a distinction between Monsters and Heroes. And they didn't know for sure how to make that compatible with the other set(yu gi oh at the time). Because they had powers that only work on heroes or monsters.

But is that jut like the difference between X-Men and Villans?

Like there is a Sentinel whos' special power only works on X-men. So obviously that's not going to work on anyone in D&D.

Just watched the Dice Tower's D&D video. Sounds like we are getting adventurers, evil, good, npc's, spells, weapons, and something else I can't remember.
