Simple question.

A character with stealth, sitting in the middle of the wide open, with no hindering terrain in the square they occupy, nor any hindering terrain around them, open to a ranged attack?

I read the rules (wrong, perhaps) that stealth turns hindering terrain into blocking terrain (when they occupy a square with hindering terrain), thus making them immune to a ranged attack (as the attack would cross blocking terrain...i.e. the occupied square). But when the character simply is standing in the clear, available to a ranged attack?

Yes that sounds right if they are in hindering terrain then they cannot be shot but if they are out in the open they can be shot like anyone else.

Well, it depends on if there is hindering terrain between them and the attacker. If there is, than no, they're ok.

And remember that even in the middle of hindering terrain, they're still vulnerable to close combat attacks.

No hindering terrain between the shooter and the stealth character. No hindering terrain in the square holding the stealth character.

So, from the responses, I'm to surmize that they (the stealth character) is indeed fair game.
