I am not a completionist. I generally only collect the cards that either feature characters I like or have effects I think could be fun/useful. So keep that in mind for the following:
Yes, I generally collect the maximum amount of dice for a card.
Yes, cards without dice are tradable. If I've already got max dice (thanks to getting a bunch of commons and uncommons of the card), I don't really need another die when I trade for a rare or SR. This also means I tend to have extra dice, too, so if someone needs just one more die to complete a max set, then I've got no problem giving it to them without a card.
That said, the Yugioh cards and dice have a special number where you need at least 1 die with a number than matches the card. Seems like this was done to address some particular issue with the Yugioh license as none of the other sets (so far) have done the same thing. So if you are going to trade Yugioh cards, yes, you should also trade the die that card came with. Otherwise, the recipient of your trade may not have any dice he or she could legally use with the card.
I thought after AvX I would want to be a completionist. Then I tried getting all the rares and srs I was missing. That didn't work out. Now I have a ton of extra dice and cards that I can't get rid of. And after the pretty steady stream of releases and the future releases on the horizon completionist isn't happening for me.
I get the starters if they have characters I want (so far all of them except the D&D). I am now trying to get as many packs as I can with store credit/rewards and then after playing in a rainbow draft or two try and trade for the other characters and dice I want and am missing. I still have tons of cards I haven't played yet and I want to play the cards I have.

I'm also new to Dice Masters, and just want to check... all you need is 1 copy of the card along with the maximum number of dice allowed for that card? My younger cousin is a big Superman fan, and before I give him my extra Superman cards, I just want to make sure that if I hold on to only one copy that I'm good to go.
And yes, I am going to give him my extra dice too, and try to get him into the game.

Not only do you only need one copy, you can only ever play one copy at a time.
If you have, say, both the Common and Uncommon card for [insert favorite character here], then you can never play both at the same time. It is still useful to get the whole set, since each card has a different ability/purchase cost, but you will never actually be able to use them both at the same time.
So go ahead and give him your extras. As long as you have at least one copy of Superman's card and one die to go with it, you can still play him.
It took a year to get a good friend into dicemasters so I can play someone. I was fortunate to buy pretty much one of everything. I like all of the options. I am not competitive at all so it comes down to building a team to try to pull off some sort of combo, and playing it 3 times with occasional sub ins to see if it is worth keeping as a team to be used in the future.

Yup. For me, I will keep 1 copy of each card (meaning I will keep one common, one uncommon and one rare/super rare version of [insert character name here]). All the others will be up for trade or, more likely for commons and uncommons, I will probably give them away. There is no in-game reason to keep more than 1 copy of each card. The only reason I can think of to do this is if you are collecting for 2 players worth or, as in comics, you have one to collect and one to play.
Note that "one copy of the card" is different than one card of each character. The Yugioh starter comes with 1 card and 2 dice for each character. The Justice League starter comes with 3 different cards and 2 dice for each character. The 2 Superman dice are the same but the 3 Superman cards are different.

Feel free to send me your extras. All i have as of right now is an Uncanny X-Men starter... Still lost as to how you een play the game... But regardless I can trade clix for em. Or just pay for shipping costs! Pm me if you wanna dump your extras!!!
MY H/W is fairly up to date. Want Team Bases, Dark Magician Chase, Summoned Skull
At the bare minimum I'll get a starter. Then, depending on how much farther I want to go with a given set, I'll get the setup box (mainly for storage; I STILL have to get the Justice League and the AvX ones!), then either a box of boosters OR buy a set of commons and uncommons off ebay, and go after rares/SR's if I need them.

There's a great video series on YouTube called "Watch It Played". The guy walks you through how to play all sorts of games. The ones he does for Dice Masters (he did a play through using AvX dice) was pretty good, it's how I learned how to play.
