Ok these guys, the Masters of Evil, are those villains that "almost" pull off their clever schemes. They're those guys at the end of the Scooby Doo episode who say "I would've gotten away with it if it wasn't for you meddling kids! "
They can push every turn and take a chance of catching their opponent off guard and quickly pulling off their plans. But because they don't have Willpower, they can just as easily push themselves to KO. Regardless, I love these characters and will play them whenever possible. Problem is that I don't often put together a theme team of these guys.
In the recent Avengers sets we got some more MoE guys. So what are some fun, effective MoE teams you guys have come up with? Modern or Golden, doesn't matter.
Zemo turning them into Thunderbolts opens up all short of builds, however they do not work on low points because Zemo is a bit expansive for what he is (tertiary attacker with tons of support options).
Around 500 points you can do so much with them it's downright fun.
Being a Zemo (and T-Bolts) fan I've yet to simple play the Masters of Evil. That said the new pieces we got in Assemble while not out of this world, are actually pretty damn good.
Swordsman and Whirlwind are pretty nice, and that Moonstone begs to be be played in a more ranged build.
I've had fun with MoE some time ago. I ran a 600-team spearheaded by Skirn and Greithoth backed by Enchantress to perplex and tk and GF Klaw copying Mystics or Asgardian ATA. The pulse wave 3 dmg blast wrecks a team. And I had a 500-tentpole team with the Absorbing Man & Titania duo figure (with Infinity Gauntlet) and Bulldozer at 70, Blizzard and again Klaw plus Wrecking Crew ATA, a bit soft team but the duo was fun.
I really like to run Masters of Evil theme teams with members of the Wrecking Crew, with the Wrecker being a major lynchpin. I assign the Wrecking Crew ATA to all keyworded options, but you can also throw in other MoE guys to help balance out the lack of mobility and range. Picking the correct map (i.e. one with a lot of walls) will also help you out-position your opponent and then crash through the walls using the Wrecker's trait or Bulldozer, and sometimes surprise your opponent. I've played the following team twice and it's a ton of fun. Everyone is from the IIM set:
Wrecker 155pts
Absorbing Man and Titania duo 250pts
Bulldozer 145 pts
Piledriver 125 pts
Thunderball 137 pts
Blizzard 75 pts
Blizzard is fodder, and pushes till dead while the rest of the Crew positions and wrecks house with heavy objects.
Aside from the new Whirlwind and Swordsman which are both pretty good.
IIM 031 Crimson Cowl...let's have some fun w/TK
AmS Shocker... RS w/psy blast
CW 020 Black Knight....RS w/psy blast
CW 029 KLAW, (a personal fave), RS w/Pulse Wave & 4 damage!
Don't forget CW 208e Ultron...let's bring in the Iron Man drones!!!
Now don't get me wrong I really love playing those bruising Wrecking Crew, but need a higher point game, and fortunately my venue does not retire, other than sealed it is almost always Silver age.

You know what, I often (almost always) leave out Zemo, and for a stupid reason: I always think he's 150 points, not 100, so I think he's too costly for most teams. But being able to open up the roster to the T-bolts is possibly the best thing to happen to Heroclix. (Alright, a bit dramatic but still pretty much true).

CW Ultron is the bomb, but how does it come in theme-wise?
Also, high point games with the Wrecking Crew are always fun!
Crimson Cowl has proven to be better than I first expected, and has teamed very well with Melter.

Captain America's Baron Zemo (original Zemo) is kick ass for MoE TA maximization. I like playing with anything that provides willpower to those that lack it, and the Green Battery + ring fit the needs for nearly all MoE variations. With will power and outwit/perplex protection, I think the Masters in play feel more like the masters of the comic pages (is down right dangerous, and formidable). Zemo keeps that TA seeing use, and using it w/ no definite damage is a HUGE element of capturing the feel of the Masters.
I love the pieces from IIM and FI, a lot!
