Universes are colliding. Worlds are dying. Incursions from other realities are threatening life as we know it. And in the pages of New Avengers, one group formed to speed that process along. In this edition of Comic Accurate, it's the all-new, all-deadly version of The Cabal!
Back in 2008, the original lineup of The Cabal debuted in the Dark Reign event when Norman Osborn allied with several other morally disreputable individuals to serve as a counter to the Illuminati. Eventually that team came apart, due to infighting and other failures. The Illuminati and all the other heroes of the Marvel Universe persevered.
Fast forward to 2012 and the beginning of writer Jonathan Hickman's epic run on Avengers and New Avengers. The Illuminati discover universes are colliding with Earth as the focal point. The only way for a universe to survive is to destroy the other's Earth. Even after exhausting their options and sacrificing some of their own morals, The Illuminati can't bring themselves to end another world for their own sakes.
Everyone but Namor, that is. Namor destroys the other Earth and decides to hook up with a crew that's willing to murder millions and millions to preserve our universe: Thanos, Proxima Midnight, Corvus Glaive, Maximus the Mad, Black Swan and the Terrax of another universe. The all new Cabal.
This team comes out to 995 points.
Why these figures - For starters, I know that this Terrax isn't the same as the one from the book. Close enough, and we're only using the lower point dial anyways. Corvus, Proxima and Black Swan got chosen because they're the only ones available. We want a Maximus that's playable, which is why we're going with the GotG version over the Sinister one. This just left Namor and Thanos. You could easily bump down Thanos to another mildly cheaper version that isn't a chase and up Namor to one of his AvX dials, but for this teams purposes we're going big on Thanos. Not that the hundred point Namor is bad or anything either.
(And note: If you do bust down at least Thanos to one that's at least a hundred points cheaper, you can make the team a little more in line with the current Secret Wars event by adding the Vet or LE of the Ultimate version of Mister Fantastic from Fantastic Forces.)
Tips for running this team - Provided you get the map roll and don't get hosed by the Shadowland map, you should have a pretty easy time otherwise. Just have Thanos pull over the two highest point opponents the second you get the chance. Have him perplex down whichever opposing defense needs it the most or have Maximus possibly counter a defense or two with his SP outwit... then go to town with the rest of the gang. Proxima and Terrax can range into the opposing folks (remember to have Maximus throw up a barrier by Terrax so his damage value will go up thanks to his SP), while Corvus, Namor and Black Swan can rush in for the close combat. Then if you haven't KO'd those two high point characters by then, have Thanos flip the speed and attack values of one of them and call it a turn, hoping that Proxima landed her tracer tokens on them and they can do a little more damage. As long as you don't get a lot of bad rolls, you should be able to finish them off before the rest of the opposing force arrives.
It's a dirty, dirty team, but Namor didn't ask these guys to help him destroy worlds because they're nice guys.
That's it for this edition of Comic Accurate! Next week is an all-new Unclixed, and in two weeks, we go where no one has gone before! And as before, if you've got any unused codes from ID cards you'd like to part with in exchange for taking up future suggestions for Comic Accurate and Unclixed, PM me!
Damn, I wanna play this team after reading Secret Wars 1-3, but I traded away all 3 Proximas I pulled, and never pulled a Corvus out of 30 some odd boosters of GotG. Great write-up, and awesome profile pic! I think Mantzoukas would make a perfect live clix commentator.
I like it. For those who don't have the chase Thanos, the 300 point Galactic Guardians SR or Guardian of the Galaxy R and the 150 point Secret Invasion Namor would make good substitutes for those two characters.
great pick, I was actually just about to run the team myself, though I opted for these versions of thanos/namor/terrax:
mainly, because I never have an opportunity to play full-dial terrax (as opposed to thanos, you tends to get point-allotment in lineups) and it puts thanos on his leadership ability for corvus and proxima to take advantage of (plus namor's leadership)
All I'm missing is a thanos, since the team came up in New Avengers I started buying the clix to make it. Thanks to Avengers I could get Black Swan, but I guess I'll have to order Thanos online.

I recently ran this version but with Thanos at 300.
These are the 3 characters that survived the battle. Namor & Thanos were never even hit if I recall correctly.
Should definitely use a different Thanos, as the Cabal version does NOT use the Cosmic Cube and the points room is needed for a better, more apropos version of Namor.
God is smarter than we are....
