ORIGIN: Tyrant was created by Galactus eons ago, yet their conflicting styles tore them apart. Tyrant grew jealous of his creator. Galactus is a minimalist, doing his best to survive, knowing that if he feasts on the universe, he'll soon starve to death. Tyrant simply lived for bloody war to fuel conquest. Galactus learned of Tyrant's wars, and found them a gross violation of the powers that Galactus had trusted to Tyrant. This caused a battle of epic proportions that destroyed galaxies, and the master, Galactus, won. Tyrant was both exiled, and deprived of his powers of being a Heralds of Galactus. He was still an enormously powerful being and spent eons gaining more power.
PROS: Whether you play him at 295, 225, or 150 points, Tyrant is a LOT to deal with for your opponents. The first thing one should notice is that he gets his trait no matter what level you play him at. Adjacent opposing characters not only CAN'T use relics or resources, but he also gets a +1 to his combat values when adjacent to a character that can use them. Tyrant's stats are already pretty impressive on all levels, so a +1 to them even if it's circumstantial is just icing on the cake. The next most noticeable thing about his dial is that no matter what power level you start him at, his opening click has his INSANELY good defense power. You have a 50/50 shot at either ignoring ALL damage dealt to you at all or, should you fail that, you STILL get Invincible which will ignore half of the damage. No matter what, you are going to be slowing down your opponent's offense with this guy. Looking at the total picture, he also has almost 2/3 of his dial that has Running Shot, either Outwit or Probability Control for most of his dial, and four clicks of Energy Explosion for four of his clicks which is NASTY considering he can draw line of fire to a lot of things with him being a giant, having an eight range, and having triple targeting capabilities. Tyrant can cause a lot of pain, and he has earned quite a reputation in my neighborhood as something NOT to be trifled with.
CONS: He's SUPER powerful. He's worth every point you pay to play him. Nobody knows who the heck he is, though. Seriously, I think I was one of TWO people at any venue that I went to in my area who had any idea who he was when he was announced. I was curious how many comic book appearances that he'd had so I looked it up on Comicvine. Tyrant has had a total of 19 appearances. Frankly, I was a little surprised. I know that I own all of those appearances, but even I was shocked that it was that MANY. This puts him squarely in the category of many figures that have come before him that were VERY playable and/or powerful, but just ended up collecting dust in people's collections because there is a large contingent of players who play with what they know...and Tyrant is the opposite of that. As a result, these powerhouses that should have a certain monetary value tend to wither away as they remain unplayed as well. Now, I'm not in this game for monetary reasons, but I like to know that should I ever NEED to sell anything that I have a cushion to fall back on. Should this stop them from making these unclixed characters? HECK, NO! It's just unfortunate that this is often their fate.
Other Players' Comments/Reviews: Using the Inline dial system, just click on the word bubble next to the character's name and it will take you to the units section comments!
KEYWORD THEMES: (Named Keywords are in bold)
COSMIC: There are a lot of options with this keyword and given Tyrant's origins it's probably one of the keywords that he is most "At home" with. I could see playing him at full points and pairing him with Annihilus or Gorr the God Butcher as a LARGE two man army that is about 500 points. You may get out-actioned, but you're going to be knocking characters off the map nearly every turn. It will balance itself out in the long run.
HERALD: Got a 2,000+ point team that you need to make? Might I suggest playing with all of Galactus's Heralds that have made it into clix form? Tyrant, Terrax, Destroyer, Silver Surfer, Red Shift, Morg, Fallen One, Air-Walker, Firelord, Stardust, and Nova...and those are just the characters that have served Galactus for any length of time. That doesn't count characters like Human Torch or "Golden Oldie" or any other alternate reality type of stories.
ROBOT: It is so easy to build Robot teams anymore. Heck, just with the addition of all the different Ultron/Ultron Drones that come in the Age of Ultron SLOP/Movie sets it adds a whole other layer of figures to put with Tyrant. I always try to make room from the four points per character that the ATA costs since it is such a good ATA and it is one of the FEW that exist for Generic Keyword theme teams. A good support team for Tyrant would be a couple of Recorders from the Guardians of the Galaxy set. They are cheap, can use their Perplex granted to them from the ATA, and have the ability to use Outwit. and can even cause some hurt with their Exploit Weakness.
NON-KEYWORD THEMES:
I swear I'm not doing this on purpose. It seems that just about EVERY character that I have been picking to do a "By the Slice" article on recently have very limited comic book appearances or they tend to stay centralized to their own teams or types of characters and don't get out to play with others often. As I said earlier, Tyrant has only ever appeared in 19 different comics. This doesn't exactly lend itself to a lot of out of the box team ideas. I'll try harder to pick a character that lends itself to this section of the article in the future!
DEEP DISH DO-IT-YOURSELF:
In this section, I share with you my own homemade dials for these poor characters that have only ever had one or two versions of themselves realized. I'll try not to get too fanboyish with them, but I'm not making any promises! I also invite any of you who like to make fan dials to please share your versions of these characters as well by using the DIAL GENERATOR in the units section on HCRealms.
Deceptively Fast: When Tyrant is given a move action, if he moves five squares or less, he may be given a close or ranged combat attack as a free action Siphoning Cosmic Energy: Tyrant can use the Capture ability. He may have up to three captives. For each captive that he has, modify all of his combat abilities by -1. When Tyrant is given the power action to release one of his captives, put an "Energy Reserves" token on his card. For each Energy reserves token on his card, modify his combat abilities by +1. The bonuses gained from Energy Reserves tokens still apply even if this power is lost or countered. Tapping into the reserves: When this click is first revealed, stop turning the dial. Tyrant can use Invulnerability and Regeneration. He may activate Regeneration as a free action, but subtracts three from the dice roll instead of two.
This wraps it up for this installment of Deep Dish Themes: By the Slice. Thank you very much for taking the time out of your day to read it! Feel free to post what you think about the article and just like regular Deep Dish Themes, feel free to nominate a character for an upcoming edition of Deep Dish Themes: By the Slice! Join me on 7/8 when I stretch my way to freedom in Deep Dish Themes: By the Slice: Thin Man (As nominated by IceHot)

What comic or storyline do you find out his past in?
It was during his first appearance after Galactus shows up to find his missing Herald. Somewhere around Silver Surfer issues #80-#90 or at least in that ballpark.

I like your custom dial. It's more comic accurate than the what Wizkids gave us. It's sad that he will probably never get made again in Clix. I've read all the comics with him and To be very accurate, He should be somewhere between 400-500 pts
Probably one of the Mose fun games I've ever played was against this guy.
Three man tournament, 300 points. The first team was The Phoenix Force (2 assigned, 5 shards, Resurrection Man/Cyclops (probably), Bizarro @ 175/Magik.
Second team: Tyrant
My team: movie Rocket Raccoon/4 pt. ata, movie Groot/4 pt. ata, Omega Drive
The Resurrection Man/Bizarro team won fairly handily and the tour enemy was called at that point, but Tyrant's player and I still wanted to play. I won map and picked the savage land map. I picked up the omega drive with Groot. Rocket got off one shot before exploding. I spent the rest of the game outwiting his special defence power on one turn and then his willpower on the other turns (I'm now fairly sure I can't outwit the willpower part of The Cosmic team ability). All the while Groot is moseying around in the stream. Tyrant shoots me to my last click and I hit my stop click. I clear. He try's to shoot me and I show him Groot's
Quote
I... AM...: When turning the dial, if this click is revealed due to damage taken from an opponent's attack, stop turning the dial. Groot has Tiny Symbol, can't be targeted by ranged combat attacks, and is considered smaller than all other characters. If Groot occupies water terrain or your starting area, you may give him a double power action and heal him of 3 damage. This power can't be ignored.
So he has to stomp after me. I DPA back up, outwit something and then sidestep away. He clears. I outwit running shot, sidestep away, then normal move away. He shoots me back down onto my stop click. I clear. He moves closer. I DPA back up, sidestep outwit something.
I keep doing this for over 30 mins. until I think I can hit him from a square away with giant reach. I outwit his defence and take my swing. Miss. He predictably squashes me. All I can do is clear. Then he steps on me with giant reach and not rolling a 1
It was fun, and there was no doubt who was going to win, but watching his face was the best time I'd had in a long time.
Shark to the stomach crits2 Greatest clix moments:(so far) Nightcrawler crits winter soldier off elevated, disabled toughness, causing 5 damage.
Another great write-up. Being a Marvel fan of days gone yonder may have to try and look up some stuff to read on this fellow.
I too had no idea who he was till I pulled him in a booster on one of those bring so many pts. from home and add to. Well after about a glance thought hmmm, I'll play him. Unfortunately for my opponents I had brought DP Tiamat with me to play.... it ws pretty brutal, neither fig took any damage and have to admit felt like I was tasting some cheddar that night.
Wow, really? I'm not a big comic reader at all and i knew who he was.
I got 2 of this guy. Pulled 1 in sealed and killed everybody with it. The second one was in a Battle Royal. People took the Con Ex and chase and left this guy on the table
Once in a KO and Keep event, where i paired him with an Entity that gave him Triple Penetrating EE, and Agent Sitwell was his sidekick, giving him extra range, Perplex, and Sidestep. Pretty brutal.
I made a Robot team with Nebula and some Spider-Bots and the Robot ATA. Also really effective, especially against teams where all figures are assigned the resource.
My H/W link does not reflect the wants for my collection, it is a list of figures that I already have, but still "want" to play.
honestly, i was pretty disappointed in the dial we got for this guy. Ideally, he'd have had a 400pt dial with up top 12 attack and 6 damage. I mean, if the Hulk can get those stats, SURELY a character much more powerful could as well.
He came off as a gimmicky defense power(albeit powerful as hell) and not much else to stand out. Where's his opening 12 though, seriously? Look at all the characters given that attack value, and yet none are at the levels Tyrant was at in the comics.
(If no one could tell, I own almost all of the 90s Surfer series and all of the Cosmic Powers mini-series, and am constantly frustrated by the powering down of Marvels cosmic characters)

i agree, cosmic people should all be rocking hulk numbers. surfer gets the biggest shaft of them all! i love tyrant though. ran him and thanosi in a 600pt 3-way battle. tyrant was the victor because of that defensive power.
@antonio.clark.art is my instagram.take a look and tell me what you think....be blessed!!!
