-1-6. This character can't make ranged combat attacks and deals no damage when making a close combat attack. When this character hits with an attack, place this relic on the hit character's card-
Ok my question is two fold:
1) Since this relic has a range of 1-6 to be equipped and thus a figure cant miss that roll, would you still have to make a power action to equip and use and would you have to even roll the die?
2) Does it fall under "relic" under the official rule book or does it fall under the "special" object category (illegal in Non-tactic tournaments) or is it both?? I know it has the gear symbol which makes it technically a
3-D object but it also has the relic keyword and range (1-6) and there are two separate categories in the official rule book.
1. You would still have to give the character a power action and roll.
2. All relics are special objects. They are a sub-category of special objects. And the gear symbols just means that something is a special object. Whether it is 2D or 3D doesn't matter.
Vanisher is right on all points, but I wanted to point out a couple clarifications to make sure everyone's on the same page.
You always have to give a power action for any figure to try to pick up a Relic, even if it's an automatic pickup (eg. Frodo and "the one Ring" from the LotR set) or a guaranteed pickup (eg. the 1-6 roll for the Straightjacket). The only exception is if you had Splitlip on your team (as he makes it a free action).
All Relics, Resources, and any special objects are not allowed in a no-tactics tournament (unless your judge says otherwise).
There is no such thing as a "relic keyword," but the rulebook says, "Certain immobile objects are listed as a “Relic.” A relic will be listed with a range of numbers" and refers to putting it on your card... if memory serves, the Player's Guide said that any special object that has a number range and is put on the character card with a successful roll is considered a Relic (as the first ones didn't have that title, they were just special objects that a character would put on their card).
The gear symbol makes it a special object, not just a 3-D object... there are some 3-D objects that are treated as standard objects and there are some 2-D (token) objects that are special objects (most of them from 8-9 years ago or so). That's why 3-D objects, Special Objects, and Relics each have their separate categories (as each can be separate but some objects encompass multiple categories and some only are in one).
-Heroclix is not a game of logic, it's a game of strategy .... after all, when's the last time that you saw a giant (using a stealth ability) that was hiding behind a swingset... and nobody could SEE him????
