While HeroClix has given us figures based on independent comics like Invincible, Judge Dredd and the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, there are still oh so many more or less popular indie properties out there that are still waiting impatiently for their Heroclix debut. In this edition of Unclixed, we spotlight the Green Hornet!
Author's note: Until the end of the year, Unclixed will be spotlighting one non-Marvel/DC property per month. Just for a bit of a change of pace.
Created in 1936 for a radio program, The Green Hornet was one of those Golden Age mystery men yet took a bit of a different path in his heroics. Sure, he was armed with a high-tech car and one of the coolest partners around, setting a standard for most non-powered vigilantes. A standard that's carried this character through the ages in numerous mediums: Comics, Radio, TV and movies. But what was that thing throughout those varied incarnations of the Green Hornet that set him apart from other masked men?
Mainly because while he was Britt Reid, newspaper publisher by day, as the Green Hornet, he was a hero that was pretending to be a villain. He didn't pal around with the Commissioner or have that buddy on the police force. The Green Hornet was fighting crime by infiltrating it.
Green Hornet and Kato would soon learn that nobody messes with Adam We
Why clix him? As a rule of thumb, if we're talking about a character that's been around consistently since the 30's and has appeared in every form of mainstream media, they should probably get some Clix love.
No, that is not James Franco on the left and they did not get superpowers from weed. Okay, maybe Seth did.
Who would he play with? Although there isn't a set for this character (an issue that will come up with each of these Indy themed articles), it would fail entirely if it didn't also include Kato. But hey, he appeared on the old 1966 Batman series (and recently crossed over in the comics), so he could be teamed with Batman. He'll also have the detective keyword. That should be a given.
What would his dial look like? Four powers he should absolutely have: Outwit, perplex, stealth and willpower. This guy is really smart and knows how to operate from the shadows. After that, it sort of depends on what powers you give him to represent the varying weapons he's had in his arsenal over the years. Gas guns or an ultra-sonic baton. These could be represented from powers like smoke cloud, poison, incap or even penetrating/psychic blast with a low damage value. And while Green Hornet isn't exactly considered at Kato's level in martial arts, the fella can handle himself. So maybe combat reflexes.
What would your idea of a dial for the Green Hornet look like, folks? Feel free to reply as that's it for this edition of Unclixed! Be here next week for an all new Comic Accurate! And in two weeks, Unclixed will be back with a Marvel hero!
I would definitely love a Green Hornet, Britt Reid AE, Kato, Black Beauty vehicle...
Of course, if you need a Green Hornet, this will do in a pinch:
Mind Control doesn't make sense, and I wouldn't call him a Close Combat Expert. But none-the-less...
Also, I'd give Hornet/Reid the Reporter keyword. As publisher, he's often pretty deeply involved with the stories that are investigated for The Sentinel.

The Green Hornet would most likely team with underworld characters, but I suppose any Reporters could also be used. He could join his great uncle for some cross-time hijinks:
The Now! comics series of the late 1980s started out so well, until the estate interfered. I encourage folks to check out those early issues.

My version of green hornet, the cost i just guessed roughly, since some 60 point guys out there seem like they can do the same as this lol
Lone Ranger wasn't amazing and didn't do well at the box office, but we got a set for it.
But it was an appropriately crappy set, so... there's that?
I was thinking more along the lines of wow this movie did so well lets make a couple sequels and a tv show and new comics etc. Which could have enticed WK to make a micro set.

That would have had to have been a much better movie than what we got.
Although, there were quite a lot of Green Hornet comics being churned out starting around that time.
Unfortunately, the NECA-era of Heroclix has seemed supremely disinterested in pursuing non DC/Marvel comic properties. (Maybe TMNT means we'll be seeing some further comic-based expansions, but I'm not holding my breath.)
