Today we bring you another Design Insight article as well as a special preview of some upcoming figures in the DC HeroClix: World’s Finest set.
For this article, we are going to take a look at a few figures that fit in the Mystical sub-theme of the DC HeroClix: World’s Finest set and discuss a new game term— just the word “Mystical” conjures up images of Witches and Warlocks… so let’s scry with our little eyes the Witch and the Warlock generics!
I'd like to thank Origamiman for teaching me the ways of scarcastic abuse.

It's not really a shame, they still work well en masse. They both have Enhancement or Empower depending on which you use, only the attack bump is unique. For only 20pts, having a limit on an attack bump for their mobility and their Enhancement/Empower, that's a steal on a Mystical team. The uniqueness of their modifiers keeps their point cost down. And I dunno about you, but with the plethora of PC, OW, and Px on Mystical characters, I'd rather have a massive surge of damage than attack. I'm going to get at least 3 of each if not more. Maybe 5 witches for a coven.
I like what I'm seeing. The Generics are pretty neat, and I really like Jason and Etrigan. Possibly less effective than the Flash Set's Etrigan, but still cool, and with more functional non-generic keywords.
"It is a fool's prerogative to utter truths that no one else will speak." "Prove you have the strength and courage to be free."

I love the Flash Etrigan, but this is a fine version with great attack values for a fair cost.
Unrelated, remember that time Wizkids was like, "we're going to make simpler figures?" Then they were like, "in this set, the common generics will have a never-before-seen mechanic."
I would be amazed if "Unique Modifier" was still appearing on cards three sets hence.
Not to be negative, but these are generics that specifically don't work well in multiples. Kind of a shame.
Unless you constantly bunch your figures together, you can have a couple, with Witch/Warlock A going with one half of your team and Witch/Warlock B going with the other half...

Not necessarily. They're cheap enough to have multiple on a team. One per firing squad. Great Mastermind targets to boot. They just can't affect the same character multiple times. Totally cool with me. Witch is almost as good as Weasel, as her +1 attack can affect multiple attackers, just can't stack them.

"Unique Modifier" is not a never-before-seen mechanic. It's an old mechanic that is being given an official name in order to simplify card text. For example, from John Jameson in the Incredible Hulk set about 4 years ago: "MARRIED(!?) DUO: When a friendly character named She-Hulk is adjacent to John Jameson, they both modify their attack values by +1 if not already modified by this effect."
What has been bolded is what the two words, "Unique Modifier" is condensing. This effect has appeared many times over the years, and it will clearly continue showing up in the future, just with actual keywords to make things consistent.
I'm all for new generics, but they're back to wasting space in a set that could have been used for new figures that have not been made before. We could have seen a return of what was in the Nick Fury set and had alot of a/b figures. They already are showing a cost cutter by using same sculpt of warlock and Jason Blood. I don't like the idea of there being 30 figures that have a/b variants, but if you want to cheat us out of spots for figures at least give us something spectacular for that loss instead of making us wait another set or two for something that could have been added in here.
