I just want to explicate how these two play-styles apply to HeroClix. I often have this discussion with new players at our shop and I just want to get some discussion from others in the community outside our little realm to see what you think.
Aggressive players are the type of players who understand move and attack principles, as well as the value of The Push. They tend to always want characters with high attack and damage values, and typically won't even consider a piece that cannot Charge, RS, or HSS in to where they need to be. They also seem to be the type more likely to run tent-pole-teams and very little, if any, support-type characters. In fact, most aggro-players consider the concept of "support" to be someone with Perplex or Enhancement/Empower rather than Outwit or Incapacitate. I usually try to get them to understand this style of game as playing "White" in chess.
Control players, or "Black" in chess, are the type of players who look at how they are going to support their primary attackers. They tend to care more about Indomitability than move/attack, and look at their team as more of an engine instead of having prominent piece(s). The type of support they run is just as important, if not more so, as the type of attacks they are trying to win with. Powers like Outwit and Mind Control are their cup of tea, and disrupting plans rather than laying them are their path to victory. Never be surprised when a Control player uses TK to throw one of your clicks out of the way instead of going for the damage, and they tend to try to cripple rather than crush.
Is this a fair basis for laying out fundamentals to new players - or should I try a different approach?
