Hello all,
I just wanted to ask about ranking in the Event System...
If you have an event which ends with 2 players at 2 Wins and 1 Loss each, and another player with 2 Wins and a Tie, shouldn't the player with the 2W 1T be first place over the other two players who each had a Loss?
Just confused about how/why players with a loss could rank higher than a player that never lost a game.
Thanks in advance.

Technically speaking, if you're following the tournament rules, there should never be a tie. (Ties are decided by roll-offs.)
But back to your original question, if the person with 2 wins and a tie has 600 points (2 300 point wins and a 0 point tie) and the person with 2 wins and a loss has 630 points (2 300 point wins and a 30 point loss) the person with 2 wins and a loss would rank higher.

As stated, HeroClix isn't supposed to have ties. Whether you roll off or do something else, there should always be a winner and a loser.
Dice Masters, however, does allow for ties and in that case, yes, a tie is considered to be better than a loss. Official DM Tournament Rules:
1.2.4
Victory: Victory in each game is determined as described in the latest Dice Masters Rulebook and any official errata or clarifications. A win is worth three points, a draw is worth one point, and a loss worth zero points.
Its just strange...
I beat the 1st place finisher in the last round, but he got first place...
I went 2W 1T, he had 2W 1L(to me)...
He probably had more points overall. As stated, HeroClix doesn't utilize ties so the system only saw 2 wins for each of you and then jumped to points.

If there are not supposed to be ties then why does WES have the option in clix for it...

Because its the same template for all WK games. Whomever makes the event in WES is supposed to select a game line (HC, DM, and so on). I honestly didn't even know that you *COULD* score as a tie in HeroClix... I've never tried and I just assumed that if you checked that box it would generate an error.
Yeah for a tie it gives both players half the total build in points...
Yes, I had less points, but no losses...
Not sure why, just hard to wrap my head around me not losing any games, or figures for that matter, and beating the guy who got 1st place, and still ending up in 3rd overall...
Oh well...
Thanks for the thoughts/comments.

How does it do that? WES has no idea what the point total of a game is.
I just "started" an event in WES to see what happens and it only awarded 0 points (the default for any player until you enter the amount of points scored).
If you scored half points for a tie, that sounds like a house rule thing. And if that's the case, you probably want to have a talk with your judge about this.
Yes, the judge put in the half points...
Its better than 0 points, right?
I hate roll offs, but at least this way you get something...
I just was shocked really when a tie was treated worse than a loss.

It might make a difference, yes. But "better"? I guess that depends on who you ask.
If you and your opponent actually KO'd a lot of things, and the game ended with a tie score of, say, 250-250 (out of 300), I'd imagine you'd be a bit upset that you only received half points.
Meanwhile, if you and your opponent didn't KO anything and were at 0 victory points, another player that DID KO a bunch of stuff might be a bit upset that you were awarded essentially "free" VPs that could throw off the standings.
Basically, if ties really are a thing, I don't see why you aren't simply awarded whatever points were actually scored. Both score 0? Then you get 0. Both score 250, then you get 250. It's what you earned, after all.

This is not an unheard of opinion. But, as a counter-example, the entire game is essentially just a series of roll offs. What's one more, really?

It is more that WES doesn't recognize ties for HC. That's all. If your judge really wanted to do so, he could have fudged the standings accordingly. If your judge DOES insist on doing ties (maybe your venue all voted on it or something), then you might want to speak to him about this.
