HYDRA: When this character is adjacent to a friendly character making a ranged combat attack, modify the target's defense value by -1 if the target is within line of fire of this character.
MY KIND OF HYDRA: When friendly characters use the Hydra team ability, they can also affect close combat attacks and don't need line of fire to the target.
Where did you get they don't need to be adjacent ? The TA ability triggers when adjacency is met, THEN "MY KIND OF HYDRA" can trigger. Also the person doing the shooting still needs LoF to the target. Not sure how you qualify this as "broken".
The box art for the World's Finest boosters is actually a reuse of the art from the Justice League Strategy game. My guess it has less to do with DC demanding New 52 art and more to do with what WizKids had on hand at short notice.

Did we say adjacency was not needed? If so, we must have misspoke. Maybe we meant that the attacker didn't need to specifically be adjacent to Wolverine.
And yes, of course the shooter still needs LoF. But the ones using the Hydra TA do not. Which makes it possible (not necessarily easy) to reduce a target's defense by -7. Of course the Rule of 3 comes into play, but a negative modifier that large can offset any positive modifiers on the target and still negatively max out the Rule of 3.
For 90 points, he brings way more to the table than what his point cost should be capable of.
