The War of a Thousand Suns
Chapter 2: Behind the Veil
Story:
*****Nova Corps Fleet, Rimbor System*****
"Attention Imperial Class Star Cruiser, Attention Imperial Class Star Cruiser, please identify or you will be fired upon." came a voice through the static. All eyes snapped to Rhomann Dey, Admiral of the fleet the Nova Corps had dedicated to a strike on the Clockmaker. "Identify yourself or we will fire, you are violating the sovereign space of Rimbor."
"This is Rhomann Dey, Admiral of the Nova Corps Empire. We were under the impression that Rimbor was under the control of the Clockmaker." Rhomann Dey spoke firmly, despite the confusion quickly spreading across the bridge of the NC Quasar.
"Sir, this was one of the first planets that fell to the clockmaker. We had a squadron at the battle of Rimbor, it was decimated by the clockmaker as we were driven back." The weapons officer informed Admiral Dey.
"I know. I was at that battle." Dey spoke slowly. "Mr. Grandor, what do our sensors pickup?"
The room went silent while everyone waited for the response. "Um... i'm not sure, sir. The audio and visual scanners show nothing abnormal. The cities, ships and people all seem as they were before the fall." The officer paused for a second, trying to find the right words. "But the planet is negative for any signatures. Of any kind."
"How is that possible?" Dey shot back. The response was interrupted by the radio, bringing the next message from Rimbor.
"The Clockmaker hasn't been present in this system for some time. He saved us and moved on to next system most likely to be targeted. It's good to see the Nova Corps again. We welcome you back as the allies you once where before our salvation."
"Sir, they have powered down all defenses. It looks like they are welcoming us. What is going on?"
"I'm not sure." Rhomann Dey answered.
*****20,000 Years Ago, Krypton*****
"That's it then. Our most powerful defense systems have failed to slow his approach. Galactus will make planet fall in three months time." The council of Krypton's Elders sat silently before a young scientist got to his feet. "The council recognizes Jor-El."
"It is true that Krypton is doomed. Our world will be destroyed as countless others have been before now. Luckily, this eventuality has long been foreseen. For the past thirty years, ever since we first became aware of the devourer and his proximity to Krypton. We knew it was only a matter of time until he turned his hungry eyes to our planet. While the military ramped up production of our strongest weapons to repel him, I have worked tirelessly with our greatest scientific minds to find a way to preserve Krypton's culture, and potentially its people." Jor-El spoke strongly, aware of the value of his work.
"Excellent. What have you developed?" The council spoke.
"We have three options available to us. I suggest we utilize them all. Firstly, despite the fact that we have not pursued a space program for some time, I have designed several prototype rockets capable of carrying several members of our race to a distant planet. We can upload an almost unlimited amount of data into the rockets as well, so the survivors can carry our culture with them. In addition to this, I believe our race may benefit from the radiation from certain stars. I have identified a planet closer to the galactic core, The Tosev System, where we could send the survivors. There, they could grow to be gods among the planets primitive inhabitants."
"Only a handful of Kryptonians? And this journey would take thousands of years, whoever took such a trip would be dead long before reaching this Tosev Star System." One of the elders interjected.
"True, my lord, but that is why the rockets work as a cryogenics chamber as well. The children will not age a day until the rockets reach Tosev III. The third planet from the sun in the Tosev system." Jor-El explained. "And they may be few in number, but they play an important role in the survival of our race. For you see, we have found a second solution to the peril we currently face. A parallel dimension we have dubbed the phantom zone. We could shift major portions of our population into the phantom zone, escaping the death of Krypton. There are risks to the negative zone. Time passes quickly in that dimension, one year in the phantom zone is roughly equivalent to 5000 years in our reality."
"Why are the few survivors important to the phantom zone strategy?" Asked an elder.
"Because once inside the phantom zone, we would have no way to get out. Gates can only be opened from this universe into the phantom zone, not the other way around. After Galactus devours Krytpon, nobody will be left to open the door to the phantom zone and let our population out. It is my belief that our refugees to Tosev will be able to utilize the information in their ships to construct a gateway, allowing us to emerge, and set up a New Krypton alongside the Tosevites."
"This sounds promising. But why do you refer to the refugees as children?"
"Well, only a child could survive the freezing process. It's a risk, and we may never get out of the phantom zone, but it's safer than staying on Krypton." Jor-El concluded looking around.
"And what is your third solution?"
"Not a solution, as we see it. A means of preserving our culture should the first two plans fail. I have created an artificial intelligence I have named Brainiac. He is designed as a herald to Galactus. Brainiac can collect data from a planet, storing and recording everything he can while making available to the planet all the information he had collected from previous cultures. While we failed to stop Galactus, it is my hope that eventually, Brainiac will warn a planet of his coming, and provide them the data they need to defeat him. It is my sincerest belief, that one day the universe will praise the name of Brainiac as the savior that defeated Galactus."
*****The Deaths Head, Sakaaria System*****
"It is good to be back in the realms of Thanos." Proxima Midnight stated, looking around the bridge of the Death's Head. "Soon we shall reach New Titan, and Thanos will have his prize."
"Yes Mistress," Spoke a Sakaraan underling, working the controls. "Mistress, a ship has just appeared out of the warp, I believe it followed us from Havania. It identifies as a ship from Apokolips."
"Darkseid. That usurper has no idea what it means to be a god. Thanos will put an end to that Tyrants reign soon enough." Proxima Midnight glanced down at the controls, watching the other ship drawing closer and closer. Their cargo was easy to trace, and easily identifiable as extremely powerful. Proxima Midnight considered identifying herself to the closing ship. They probably would fall back if they knew this ship belonged to Thanos, Lord of the Death, Master of the Black Lanterns. But she was under strict instructions from Thanos himself to avoid identifying their loyalties. "Let them come. Prepare for battle. When they get close enough, begin boarding procedures. I will slay these scum myself."
Proxima Midnight gestured for her personal guard to follow him as the first sounds of the ships cannons began to sound.
Event:All HSR events are silver age with no tactics allowed unless specified by the event. The highlander rule is also in play, no duplicate characters unless they are generics, unless specified by the event. For Questions on these rules, please see the FAQ at the bottom of the page.
A few key words are used specifically when setting guidelines for team building. They are:
Character:A character refers to one person. Captain America is a character, Iron Man is a character and Thor is a character. Characters should be Proper Noun characters, not generics. This means that a figure like Avengers Prime is actually three characters, even though it is on one dial. Some characters, like Madrox or Ultron, can have many figures even though they only take up one character spot.
Generic: Generics will always be preceded by a keyword. An example can be seen below with Hydra Generic. This means that any number of hydra generic figures can be used.
Active Roster: Active rosters are the teams that are currently active in the story. When a team specifies it must be built from an active roster, any combination of the characters on that roster can be used. The active rosters also have any special effects a given character has. Relatively few characters will have special effects, but some will.
Behind the Veil
Special Map: The skilled mapmaker Traumador has created a unique map for this weeks epic battle! Below is a picture of the map, and a link to the complete file itself. While this weeks battle could be played on any map that resembles a spaceship, those of you inclined to do so can take this file to an office store and get a full sized custom map printed out for this weeks game!
Traumador trades custom maps for clix, I sent him some booty for this maps commission, and you can see all of his other maps at the following link! Definitely worth checking them out!

Generics from the Regions of Thanos
Team 2: Apokolips
Point Value: 700
Team Build:
1 Named Character from Apokolips Active Roster
1 Marvel Alien Character

Specal Rules:
Two Ships: At the beginning of the game place two special terrain markers in the middle of the map. The side closest to the Thanos players starting area is their Ship, and the side closest to the Apokolips team is their ship.
While the boarding parties are fighting it out, the ships continue to fire on each other! At the beginning of each players turn, roll 1 die to see what happens!
1. It's A Trap: Your opponent can remove a total of three action tokens from their characters.
2. Focus All Fire: Choose a square on the enemies ship, deal 4 damage to any character in that square and 3 to any character adjacent to that square.
3. All Power to Shields: Gain a shield token.
4. Critical Hit: If you have a shield token, remove it from the game. If you do not, gain a critical hit token. If you have 3 critical hit tokens, every character on your ship is ko'd, and you no longer roll on this table at the start of your turn.
5. Shockwave: Roll one die for each character on the map. If a one is rolled, deal that character one unavoidable damage.
6. Reinforcements: Deploy 100 points of generic reinforcements to your starting area.
Results:
Post if either ship was destroyed, and who won. In addition post the Alien Marvel character who is with Apokolips, and post the DC character who is the daughter of Thanos. These slots will be made permanent this week based on a random drawing of characters used in these games!
This weeks results see several empires getting decimated. It seems that galaxy is divided into more or less two camps: The people fighting against the clockmaker, and the people sucker punching the people fighting the clockmaker.

Assuming it's cool if we're short on generics to fill in the rosters with theme-appropriate substitutes--we've got a whopping two parademons available and not even that many minions of Thanos or Black Lantern generics, but have plenty of options to fill in with named's for both squads.
