While we are getting the umpteenth version of Spider-Man and Wolverine, there are still oh so many more or less popular characters out there that are still waiting impatiently for their Heroclix debut. In this edition of Unclixed, it's the Spidey foe known as Mr. Negative!
A long time ago, a man named Martin Li was attempting to come to America to try and find his fortune in the Land of Opportunity. Unfortunately the only way he could get to the US turned out to be a slave ship operated by a gang. Even worse, the ship crashed and he died, his identity being stolen by one of the gang members, who survived and ended up in New York City. This gang member then ended up being kidnapped by Silvermane, who used him as a test subject for an experimental drug. What luck, right?
The drug caused this gang member to develop two distinct personalities: The first being Martin Li, now a kind-hearted charitable entrepreneur who possesses a healing touch. The second being Mister Negative, a crimelord running the streets of Chinatown with the power to corrupt individuals.
Since then, Mister Negative has become a major thorn in the side of Spider-Man and his allies (most recently Cloak & Dagger). But it's not just the good guys Negative has gone up against. He's clashed with other crimelords and even The Hood during Dark Reign.
When Mister Negative says "talk to the hand", he is not freakin' kidding.
Why clix him? Because this guy is a player. Since his debut eight years ago in the Brand New Day era of Spider-Man, he's been involved one way or another in every arc and every crossover. We've also got the Superior Foes of Spider-Man set coming out soon and he's perfect for it.
Those bastards at Rice-a-Roni had no idea how much trouble they were in.
Who would he play with? For starters, Hammerhead has been one of his more loyal lieutenants. You can also stick him with a bunch of criminal/thug/lackey/henchmen generics to serve as his Inner Demon gang (if they don't end up getting made alongside him). Mister Negative is responsible for the creation of Anti-Venom, so he'd qualify. Cloak & Dagger were corrupted by him and did his bidding recently. And he's had encounters with Spidey villains ranging from Phil Urich to Norman Osborn to Doctor Octopus.
What would his dial look like? With two different personas, it just becomes an issue of how to represent them both on a single dial. Martin Li would easily have support to heal others to represent his healing touch while Mister Negative's corrupting touch would most likely be represented by mind control. Martin might have Perplex to help other friendly characters, while Mister Negative would have Mastermind to throw them under the bus.
But how to feature these? Two different dials on the same figure? Like the Two-Face figure where you had to roll at the beginning of your turn to see who he was at that given moment?
So what would your idea of a dial for Mr. Negative look like, folks? Feel free to reply as that's it for this edition of Unclixed! Be here next week for an all new edition of Comic Accurate! And in two weeks, Unclixed will be back with a DC villain!
I gave him a high attack because he has punched Spider-Man through two buildings at one point, but has not demonstrated any real strength when picking things up, so Super Strength was not an option.
The B/C/F represents his sword and he has shown the ability to cut bullets coming towards him. Which is represented in ESD (when he has the sword) and Combat Reflexes without.
His trait with the Mind Control marker represents his Mind Control over someone. Since the Mind Control lasts for a while, I represented that with the marker. And then he just turned into Martin Li at the end.

Mr. Negative/Martin Li: At the beginning of your turn chose one: Mr. Negative can use Mind Control, but only as a close combat action. OR Mr. Negative can use Support. A negative of yourself: When Mr. Negative hits an opposing character, after actions resolve attach the Mind Control marker to a hit opposing character, removing it from anywhere else. While the Mind Control marker is attached, that character is part of Mr. Negative's force. Give the character with the Mind Control marker attached an action token to remove the Mind control marker. Martial Artist Mastermind: Mr. Negative can you Mastermind and Combat Reflexes. Martin Li: STOP. This character does not posses any of his traits. Mr. Negative can use Support.
Clix have a real time price that I go by. Sentimentality doesnt add on any extra price. So I trade evenly by what the prices are. Thanks!
I always thought Stealth for his negative form and Shape Change for his human form.
And l do believe he gains some super human strength in negative form.
Whatever his dial is, it should definitely be black print on a white base
I like the way your thinking but it would probably make him a chase.
Not really familiar with this character at all out of touch with recent Spidey storylines but it would give Wizkids a choice for some sculpt reuse so I'd say a version could be on the cards. I could see a swap mechanic like Adam Warlock and Magus from Galactic guardians or Void and Sentry working well. Alternatively you could easily do two clix on the same dial like Joker Thug or even a base click that moves to other options like Reptil. Plenty of options really.
