Chapter 6: Anti-Life Equation
Story:
**********Shrine to Death, Earth**********
“By the power of Asgard, I will turn you back, Titan!” Thor hurled Mjolnir with all his force. The blow would have split the moon in half, but here it barely made Thanos stagger. It did distract Thanos long enough for Wonder Woman to slash at his calf's with her enchanted blade. “Well met, beloved!” Thor cried out, before a blast of black energy sent Wonder Woman flying across the shrine.
“No worries, my brother, I've got her.” Loki's hands traced complex patterns through the air as Wonder Woman's velocity slowed to zero as she crumpled on to the floor. “She's alive. But she won't be if we can't stop Thanos!” Loki's words sounded sincere to Thor, but even so, Thor was dubious. He had been tricked by his brother too often to take him at his word. “The Lanterns have helped, but we need more firepower. If my two infinity gems can't stop him, I don't know what could.”
As if in response to the tricksters inquiry, a blast of pure energy caused Tanos to stagger and fall to one knee. The blast had come from the hands of the Martian Planethunter and those of Galactus, devourer of worlds. “You shall not destroy Earth, monster! Not while I still draw breath!”
“Aah the mighty Galactus!” Thanos challenged as he saw his newest assailant. “Lets see how you defend yourself from the might of the master of death!” Thanos unleashed a blast of purest death at Galactus. The blast threw Galactus back across the Shrine, and a second one sent the Planethunter after him. “Pathetic.” Thanos laughed as he continued to hammer Galactus with blast after blast.
“Brother, I have an idea. I have managed to infiltrate Thanos' mind using the mind stone and my own considerable talents. You need to take Superman and Phoenix and hit him with everything you've got. After you fail, I shall intervene.” Loki said all this rapidly as his mind concocted his newest scheme. Thor hesitated for only a moment, seeing no better options, before joining with Phoenix and Superman. Their combined might was enough to distract Thanos, but they were felled moments later.
“Well done, my love.” The cold voice crept across the battlefield, sending chills down everyone's spines save the one it was meant for. “You have finally become worthy of my affections. Worthy of the powers I give you.”
Thanos' eyes went wide as he saw Mistress Death standing on the Alter. “It is you! You acknowledge my power! Watch as I use the power I have claimed to kill not only this planet, but the devourer of worlds as well!”
“Excellent, my love.” Death held out her hand, waiting for Thanos to take it. As soon as the titans hand connected with hers, Loki quickly shed his disguise. Before Thanos could react, Loki was in contact with the Death Stone. Using the power of the Mind Stone, Loki severed Thanos' mental connection to the stone, leaving only his own. A sudden explosion sent the Titan flying across the battlefield, leaving Loki alone, with three gems at his disposal.
“Thanos is dead, gone to join his mistress as her slave. I stand now between you and the planet Earth.” Loki spoke directly to Galactus. “You can either leave this system and never return, or continue the fight you cannot hope to win.”
“I am aware of the power you now hold, Asgardian. I shall leave. Come, Planethunter, we must find another world to sustain me.” Galactus spoke calmly, barely showing his near fatal wounds.
“I cannot continue in my capacity as your herald. I was planning on defending this planet from your hunger, and with you in your current state, I find myself able to leave your employ.” The martian spoke firmly, his hands glowing with energy.
“I will not allow this.” Galactus began to raise his hand, but was stopped by Loki.
“You will allow it. Now leave. Your herald is yours no more.” Galactus stood motionless, and then turned and began to leave. The members of the Green Lantern Corps and the Justice League stared in wonder at their savior.
**********Sinestro's Throneroom, Qward**********
Lyssa Drak walked through the wreckage of Qward, standing where Sinestro had formerly ruled. She had taken back the Corps from the impostor from Earth, the Red Skull. He had sadly escaped the fall of Qward, making his getaway during the chaos that followed the invasion from an unknown realm.
“Miss, your corps awaits your instruction.” One of her lieutenants spoke to her. “We await to hear what you have planned for the Sinestro Corps now.”
“Not the Sinestro Corps, soldier. That died with Sinestro. From now on, we are the Parralax Corps.” Lyssa Spoke smoothly, turning to face the lieutenant.
“Then the Parralax Corps awaits your instruction. And the leaders form the Green Lantern Corps, the Shi'ar and the Nova Corps await you as well. I believe they wish to discuss our role in the new galactic order.”
“Yes. I bet they do. Particularly J'son, that power hungry dictator that conquers his neighbors to protect them. Tell them I will meet with them shortly, once I tend to my own house.”
**********Royal Palace, Thanagar********** Brought to you by Baron Impossible
A cool breeze wafted across the conference room high atop the palace in Thanagar. The Shi'ar had mastered climate control centuries ago. Yet, despite their technology, something forgotten within their avian ancestry still persists, preferring fresh air in a high altitude. It was calming. It was home. Majestrix Lilandra rested more comfortably than usual, not donning the full regalia of her battle armor. Though they were still at war and protocol demanded she wear it in an official assembly, she couldn't bring herself to stay so stuffy. Not on a night like this. Since she's stepped into the duty of her family, to reclaim the honor tarnished by her mad brother's rule, she's tried so hard to be the majestrix her people deserve, her people need. But something of today, perhaps the scent of jasmine on the night air reminds her of that youth when she was a fugitive. Safeguarded by outlaws, finding a home on the Starjammer, just hiding and surviving for the day she could lay her bid for the throne. Such freedom. Looking across the table to her brother-in-law watching her, Lilandra realizes something of her nostalgia must be playing on her face as he interestedly sees the subtle glimpses of emotion on her face. He's so observant. Confident. Perhaps too pragmatic, but there's a bit of a rogue in him too. Lilandra remembers first meeting him a decade ago. She was just a slip of a girl but this Emperor gave her parlay and refuge. She's long suspected that kindness from him came from his own nostalgia for his wayward youth. Here they were, the two emperors of the great Shi'ar/Spartax Alliance and they were both reformed pirates. The delight of the thought loosened her poise enough to let slip a half-twinge of a smile on the left corner of her mouth. J'son's eyebrows raced to his hairline in response to her "open display" of emotion. Yes, brother, that was for you.
"Well, Lily," he began, "what's got you in such a fine mood? News of the Mad Titan's defeat?" He was insufferable at times. When she was a girl in exile with a bounty on her head he always addressed her in the most formal of titles, deferring respect to her as a full monarch despite her age and dispossession. And since her coronation he's taken to this pet name for her as if she were a favored niece. It was odd and humbling and surprisingly endearing. "Yes, brother," she equivocated, "it is heartening news to discover a great evil has been vanquished. Even as another foe rises to take our attention, it is important to remember to celebrate our victories as they come." Yes, that was a very regal response. That would do well. The crows feet in J'son's eyes deepened, his smirk silently telling her 'you can't kid a kidder.' But he let it stand. She was amazed at how affable a co-ruler he has proven to be. There were no power plays, not even hidden ones, to undermine her authority or wrestle for more power. Despite all that people say about him, could he really be content to rule as they have? She'd love to believe it of him, but a lifetime of familial disappointment has taught her to not trust to emotion. She would remember her training and stay cautious and inscrutable. She would be the opposite of D'Ken in every way, may Onimar Synn choke on his soul.
"Do you think they'll accept it, the Pax Galactica?" J'son queried as he picked at the berries arrayed on the conference table. He favored the grey ones. "The Alliance already benefits from our War Council meetings, and the Assembly of Emperors will help to maintain peaceful accords. The Lanterns and Nova corps officially partnering, one each per sector, serving as the enforcement arm of the Pax and given jurisdiction over all the Grand Alliance. The Kree should be amenable, their stagnant genepool giving access to the vast diversity of the Shi'ar's metagene while our conventional troops gain access to their advanced military training. Gladiator becomes a Lantern and put that considerably will to use. Princess Amethyst joins the Star Sapphires. Everyone gets incentive to stay together but it doesn't address those outside the Alliance. I know you don't trust Drak yet, but she's proven much more workable. Keeper Salaak has a lantern's disapproval of the Yellow, but even he's managed to see her as a new beginning. Perhaps not a full seat yet at the table, but if she plays nice with others we should make room. I still say we should speak with Zod." Lilandra didn't know why she was surprised to hear that. It's the kind of thing J'son would say. "Brother, we sent missive after missive to an unresponsive Highfather. If he would not consider our offers, the much more aggressive Zod is unlikely to match our goals. Besides, did he not try to kill you once?" That tidbit of gossip should rock him on his heals. Lilandra doubted J'son knew she had heard of the rumor.
J'son snorted once. "A bit. It's a long story, Lily. Involving some smuggled Daxam spices and a dispute over a girl named Faora, but really it was ages ago. I don't even blame him. He probably doesn't even remember it. Look, Zod may not be shy about battle, but he's no friend of Darkseid and that's a thorn in our side we need settled before we can turn full attention to Annihilus. A united front is what we'll need to crush the bugs. I don't want another repeat of the post-Clockmaker ambush." Lilandra was inwardly disappointed he didn't take the bait. The details weren't anything she hadn't already ferreted out. Perhaps if she got the two of them together in a room, but no. That wouldn't be the right reason. She really didn't trust Zod or Drak. She was glad Drak won. Schmidt was a monster. but she feared Lyssa would succumb to the same corruption from Parrallax.
"We shall consider a probation period for Librarian Drak and Emperor Dorrek, for that matter." Two cycles in a row the Shifters promised aid in the battles of Xanshi and failed to arrive. This past cycle, War Prince Katar lead an envoy to aid them at Moord only to discover they didn't show to their own invasion. The Shifters have been unreliable and it almost cost her the life of her beloved when the Annihilation Wave arrived at Moord. Her frustration became all too personal. But the majestrix can't be ruled by her heart. The majestrix must remember the Shifters were the first to extend their hand in peace, even if their hand hasn't yet helped. A majestrix must be patient and give them another chance. The Pax was too important. "We also acknowledge it would not do to ignore the sovereign entity of New Krypton, especially as they are at war with our enemy. Even wounded, Apokolips remains too dangerous a threat." And it was personal. Her sister Cal'syee had been corrupted by her upbringing there. An old pact sealed by the abominable trade of children, long since dissolved but the damage still done. She couldn't honestly say it was the worst of D'Ken's crimes, but it was the one that wounded her the most. Cal'syee used to be so gentle. Now she was a pawn of Darkseid. Even if he weren't a threat to the Alliance, she'd see him pay for it, appropriate or no.
"Well, then, Lily. Let's see if our allies want to be friends."
**********Darkseid's Command Post, Sakaar**********
“Those monsters took our home.” Darkseid mused, looking over the army that had followed him to Sakaar. “They struck well, striking while we were engaged with the Kryptonian's. It is of no matter. It has come to my attention that the Nova Corps is currently in possession of the Anti-Life Equation.”
“My Lord,” Gorr murmured, “What is the Anti-Life Equation?”
“I thought it was a rumor.” Darkseid admitted. “Though my sources confirm that it was found by the Nova Corps fleet when they liberated the planets held by the clockmaker. The Anti-Life equation holds the power of subjigating any planet we come across. Turning their strength into our own. We could take control of the monsters that took Apokolips, and unleash them against our foes. In short, it could turn the tides of this war in our favor.”
“But the Nova Corps has surely locked this information away on Xandar, well outside of our reach.”
“On that, I can assure you are mistaken. My ally in the Green Lantern Corps has let me know that the Nova Corps is planning on sending the equation to Oa to be safeguarded by the Green Lantern Corps. We shall intercept it as it moves from Voori to H'laven.”
Pax Galactica
The Shi'ar Spartax Coalition is moving forward with their vision of a unified galaxy. This is taking the form of the Pax Galactica. Every Empire is invited to unite with the exception of Apokolips.
There are several benefits of joining:
Protection by the Nova Corps and Green Lantern Corps peacekeepers.
Free movement across all space belonging to member empires.
Allies to ward off evil aliens from a different dimension.
But there are several problems as well:
If Nova Corps/Green Lantern Corps joins, they will be required to send 100 points to every planet in the coalition to police each sector.
You open yourself up to invasion by any of the member states as they can move armies freely through the empire.
Json appears to be setting it up to exclude an empire he does not like that has openly challenged him. (Apokolips)
Please post if your empire is joining the Pax Galactica. You can demand changes, or demand rewards for signing, or negotiate anything you think your empire would want.
Event:All HSR events are silver age with no tactics allowed unless specified by the event. The highlander rule is also in play, no duplicate characters unless they are generics, unless specified by the event. For Questions on these rules, please see the FAQ at the bottom of the page.
A few key words are used specifically when setting guidelines for team building. They are:
Character:A character refers to one person. Captain America is a character, Iron Man is a character and Thor is a character. Characters should be Proper Noun characters, not generics. This means that a figure like Avengers Prime is actually three characters, even though it is on one dial. Some characters, like Madrox or Ultron, can have many figures even though they only take up one character spot.
Generic: Generics will always be preceded by a keyword. An example can be seen below with Hydra Generic. This means that any number of hydra generic figures can be used.
Active Roster: Active rosters are the teams that are currently active in the story. When a team specifies it must be built from an active roster, any combination of the characters on that roster can be used. The active rosters also have any special effects a given character has. Relatively few characters will have special effects, but some will.
Anti-Life Equation
Team 1: Apokolips
Point Value:1000
Team Build: Team is built using characters form Apokolips active roster. Darkseid is not allowed in this mission.
Team 2: Nova Corps and Green Lantern Corps
Point Value:1200
Team Build: 600 from Green Lantern Corps, 600 From Nova Corps
Specal Rules: For this game, all movement is halved. Setup the Green Lantern Corps in one starting area, and the Nova Corps in the other starting area. The Apokolips player does not start on the board.
At the beginning of the Apokolips players turns for the first five rounds, the Apokolips player places one boomtube token on the board. He can then move up to 200 points onto the board with their initial step being the square with the boomtube. After five turns, all of the 1000 point team for Apokolips should have entered play.
Before the game begins, place an anti-life equation token on one member of the Nova Corps team. That character can be given a free action to give the token to another character. If the holder of the token is ko'd, the token is placed in the square they occupied. Any character in or adjacent to the square with the token may be given a free action to pick up the token.
A character holding the Anti-Life Equation cannot be carried or placed.
Victory Conditions:
Team 1 wins if a character holding the Anti Life Equation token moves into a square containing a boomtube marker.
Team 2 wins if a character holding the Anti Life Equation moves into the Green Lantern Corps Starting area.
Standing Armies This means as your empire gets bigger, you will have to have more points used in defense.
Limits on Attacking You can only attack with 400 points plus 200 points for any additional lanes leading to the target planet you control. An Example of this would be to look at Thanagar in the Shi'ar Empire. If the skrulls attack, they could send 400 points from Gigantus, plus an additional 200 from Chnitt. But if the Shi'ar attacked Gigantus, they could only send 400 points.
Limits on Defending You can only send 500 points to defend any one planet. This planet gets an additional 200 points if it has a path through planets you control to your home world. So Korugar has a maximum of 500 defense points since it isn't directly connected to Qward.
Protect the Homeworld! Your homeworld can have as many points dedicated to defense as you want to spend, no cap is in place for your final planet.

They are both currently right at the line. I think the GLC is slightly under. The important point is that they would not have a say in how they spread there points until they have put the roughly 3k points towards patrolling each sector. And if they run short, the sectors they leave vacant would not be happy.

I knew I'd get a chance to keep participating after the fall of Thanos, but this was a pleasant surprise -- looking forward to taking on a very different role!
Thanks for the epic sendoff for Thanos. Glad the purple madman got to go down swinging. (Loki as Earth's Mightiest Defender is pretty hilarious, too.)
What I love about this comment is it is both literal and snarky at the same time. We tried to kill you this week with posts, didn't we.
Close. Luckily I currently have an ample amount of free time. That being said, I loved the past two weeks. Great to see so much enthusiasm! The HRS is easily what I am enjoying most about heroclix.
