Welcome to the eighteenth thrilling installment of The Heroclix Roleplayers' Society!
The Annihilation Wave is being beaten back by a mighty coalition of empires lead by the Shiar Spartax Coalition, even as they are attacked from within by the Skrull Empire, who reveal themselves to be religious zealots working to assure the victory of the invaders from another reality. Darkseid has been overthrown and Steppenwolf has risen to claim the mantle of lord of Apokolips! Meanwhile the Justice League Galactic Division gathers their strength as they consider what thier next move is. All this may be pointless though as Lyssa Drak turns to unlikely allies to try and purify her mind from the poison that is Parallax! The end draws near, so grab you dice, your clix, and brace yourself for Chapter 8: The Only Thing to Fear!
The War of a Thousand Suns
Chapter 8: The Only Thing To Fear
Story:
**********Ruins of Darkseid's Throneroom, Apokolips**********
Darkseid had lead his armies to victories and defeats. He had invaded the Green Lantern Worlds, and smashed Kree soldiers that dared challenge his might. Now, it was he who laid broken before a superior foe. Steppenwolf had shown himself for the backstabbing traitor he was, striking down the lord of Apokolips on what should have been a moment of glory for the ever growing empire. Not just that, but Algrim lay dying not far from Apokolips. The Dark Elves had stayed loyal to the Darkseid, and paid for it with their blood. Thousands of planets away, Malekith vowed vengeance against Steppenwolf.
**********Deep Space**********
Lyssa Drak had removed herself from Qward. She felt torn apart, her brain being constantly assaulted by the entity of fear itself. Long had she worshiped the being known as Parallax, but now that she had come into contact with it, she only felt fear. Still, by force of will she had managed to beat Parallax back momentarily, contained in a corner of her mind.
“I cannot hold it back.” Lyssa cried out, feeling the tendrils of fear working their way to the surface. “I must rid myself of this beast!”
NO! I shall be free, and you shall be my vessel! a cold voice spoke to her alone. Return to Qward, summon my corps, and let us glory in the fear brought by the Annihilation Wave!
“I won't!” Lyssa shouted, unconsciously sending out a distress beacon through her ring. “The annihilation wave will destroy everything it encounters, and I won't be responsible for that.”
Lyssa curled back, tears streaking her dark blue skin. Moments later, or possibly years, Lyssa felt a hand on her shoulder. Spinning around, she saw assembled the members of her corps the most loyal to her as a leader. The ones who had become concerned with her recent change in behavior.
“Parallax has taken hold of me.” Lyssa managed to say, feeling Parallax creeping ever closer to the surface. “I need to get him out.”
Her loyalists hesitated before one drifted forward and said, “What about the Blue Lanterns? They alone can break the connection between a Red Lantern and their ring, if anyone can break Parallax's hold on you, I would hope it would be them.”
**********Oa**********
Charles Xavier was a nervous man. He had recently uncovered the dire secret that Scar, one of the Guardians of the Green Lantern Corps was responsible for the security leak that had jeopardized the Anti-Life Equation. He had come forward with this information with the hope that it might help the Green Lantern Corps set their house in order, but so far the Guardians had taken their usual secluded route to fixing this problem.
“Xavier, we've got hostiles, incoming!” Taskmaster shouted to the Blue Lantern, pointing his ring into the sky, a green shield appearing between him and the attackers.
“Hold your fire,” Xavier said quickly, scanning the invaders, “They come in seek of help.”
“Blue Lanterns!” one of the Parallax Corps members shouted as they landed in front of the Green and Blue Lanterns. “We come in need of help! Librarian Drak is possessed by the entity of fear itself, we thought it may be possible for you to help purger her body of Parallax”
“We should contact the Guardians,” Salaak said quickly, processing the new information.
“There isn't time for that.” Xavier said quickly. “Drak is losing control quickly. Before long we will be faced with a fully unchained Parallax. Xavier placed his hands on either side of Drak's head, and quickly submerged herself in her psyche. His ring began to glow with a strong blue light.
“We should be interrogating them.” Taskmaster muttered, starring at the Parallax corps members. “They probably know where Guy is.”
A surge of energy filled the air, blasting the assembled lanterns back from Lyssa Drak. Xavier had succeeded in freeing her from Parallax's grip, but he had also given form to Parallax itself.
Event:All HSR events are silver age with no tactics allowed unless specified by the event. The highlander rule is also in play, no duplicate characters unless they are generics, unless specified by the event. For Questions on these rules, please see the FAQ at the bottom of the page.
A few key words are used specifically when setting guidelines for team building. They are:
Character:A character refers to one person. Captain America is a character, Iron Man is a character and Thor is a character. Characters should be Proper Noun characters, not generics. This means that a figure like Avengers Prime is actually three characters, even though it is on one dial. Some characters, like Madrox or Ultron, can have many figures even though they only take up one character spot.
Generic: Generics will always be preceded by a keyword. An example can be seen below with Hydra Generic. This means that any number of hydra generic figures can be used.
Active Roster: Active rosters are the teams that are currently active in the story. When a team specifies it must be built from an active roster, any combination of the characters on that roster can be used. The active rosters also have any special effects a given character has. Relatively few characters will have special effects, but some will.
The Only Thing To Fear
Team 1: Parallax
Point Value: Any
Team Build: Parallax is comprised of any one figure that represents the entity of fear. Some good suggestions would be: Parallax, Cul Borson, The Serpent, Any of The Worthy, etc.
Parallax gains the Quintessence Team Ability, and gets +2 to all combat values.
Team 2: The Lanterns
Point Value: Twice the Point Value of Parallax
Team Build:
Charles Xavier
Sinestro Corps Characters/Generics
Blue Lantern Corps Characters/Generics
Green Lantern Corps Characters/Generics
Read this only if you are going to play away from your collection, otherwise open this when the scenario tells you to, and build this team then.
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Also include a Red Lantern Corps Team that is the same point value as Parallax. This team can include the following characters:
When Half of the Lanterns (by points) are KO'd, read the following:
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
As the Lanterns fall before the embodiment of Fear, a Red Light shines over the battlefield. “It looks like Oa isn't the peaceful refuge we were promised.” Came a smug voice from above the combined lantern forces. “Red Lanterns, lets strike down this entity of fear, and then we shall see why the Guardians summoned us!”
Reveal the spoilers included for this mission. Place the Red Lanterns anywhere on the board.
For this game, you will need Fear Tokens, Will Tokens and Hope Tokens. These tokens work by the rules below:
Fear Tokens When a character misses an attack they are given a number of fear tokens equal to how much they missed the attack by. When a character has 5 fear tokens, they join Parallax's team. A Sinestro Corps member can remove one token from each adjacent character as a free action to increase the Sinestro Corps members combat values equal to the number of tokens removed until the next round.
Will Tokens When a Green Lantern Corps member survives an attack (either by evading the damage, or by living through the damage) he gains a Will Token. When a character with Will tokens would be KO'd, instead remove all the will tokens and heal the character that many clicks from their first KO click.
Hope Tokens When a character Successfully makes an attack, they gain a Hope Token. When a character with a Hope Token would be given a fear token, instead remove a Hope Token.
Do Not Reveal Until Told To Do So
Spoiler (Click in box to read)
Rage Tokens When a member of the Red Lantern Corps misses an attack, they gain a Rage Token instead of a Fear Token. Modify this characters Attack Value and Damage Values by +1 for each Rage Token they possess. A character may remove a Rage Token to use colossal stamina.
Standing Armies This means as your empire gets bigger, you will have to have more points used in defense.
Limits on Attacking You can only attack with 400 points plus 200 points for any additional lanes leading to the target planet you control. An Example of this would be to look at Thanagar in the Shi'ar Empire. If the skrulls attack, they could send 400 points from Gigantus, plus an additional 200 from Chnitt. But if the Shi'ar attacked Gigantus, they could only send 400 points.
Limits on Defending You can only send 500 points to defend any one planet. This planet gets an additional 200 points if it has a path through planets you control to your home world. So Korugar has a maximum of 500 defense points since it isn't directly connected to Qward.
Protect the Homeworld! Your homeworld can have as many points dedicated to defense as you want to spend, no cap is in place for your final planet.

Although is an official Warbound roster coming, or shall I keep rolling with it how I see fit? If it's the latter, I'll be sure to add in some of the people other folks used, too.
Thanks for including suggestions for those of us who don't have a Parallax available. Got a few worthy... Worthy figures available. Although I might use Darkseid as a stand in since he's off the board it appears, and I never got to use him in a match (my own fault, but man, I never did get around to making good use of Thanos before he croaked, now Darkseid...)

Yeah, I never even came close to owning a Parallax...
Sakaar has never been a beautiful world - at least not in the memories of anyone currently living upon it. It's been a charred hellscape for as long as Darkseid counted it as one of his minion worlds, and the Red King kept up appearances - save for his own luxurious capital city, which was really just his palace. However, a green light has broken through the cracks of the earth of this world. No, not the Green Lantern's Light, but rather the Worldbreaker. The jade giant from another world who arrived as the ultimate warrior, and has risen to become the ultimate liberator. Parademons and Kree soldiers alike littler the battleground of the savage three-way slugfest. Colonel Yon-Rogg had tried to strike a deal with the Hulk, speaking to him of his Earth history and revealing to him a family he had not known - a family in Darkseid's thrall on Apokolips. Of course, Yon-Rogg tried to extract a price from him, and the Hulk has never been a deal-maker. He has been known to do the exact opposite of what he knows he should do just because someone else had tried to tell him to do it. His response of "Help or don't" was about as agreeable as he's capable of being.
But when jittery Kree Privates saw the monsters of the Warbound, some presumed they were among Darkseid's hordes, and paid for that mistake with their lives. If there's one fault the Warbound have after honing their bonds in the Red King's gladiator pits, it is that they don't often know when to stop fighting.
The would-be conquerors from Hala have been driven off, and the had-been conquerors from Apokolips have also been expunged. Before the latter hordes had left, though - and perhaps weakening their resolve enough for them to be defeated - the word came buzzing through the Parademons that Darkseid had been overthrown. Perhaps even killed.
"By someone named Steppenwolf," says the Bi-Beast, as he sorts through the communications that OMAC intercepted from their now ex-tormentors.
The Korbinite lifts an eyebrow ridge. "I've heard that name. If he has actually usurped and killed Darkseid, that gives more credence to him than his reputation would suggest."
"What's - *kik* - what's his reputation?" Miek asks.
"Scuttlebutt in the pits was that he was none too subtle about his intentions toward disloyalty, which I took to be foolhardy," Bill responds.
"Perhaps it was all a ploy to make Darkseid underestimate him," Killraven interjects. "Seems to have worked, regardless."
"Any news of Caiera?" asks Thundra, standing near her daughter Lyra, whose green skin makes plain her paternal origins, although the time-tossed twosome gave Hulk little choice in the matter. Lyra was conceived through future science and stolen cells before she was brought here by the same chronal event that stranded her mother and Killraven here, and while she feels a vague kinship to the Hulk - and perhaps some kind of responsibility to him - she has no interest in the concept of his 'fatherhood.' For her part, Thundra is much more interested in the fate of the Furies.
"No," comes the even response from the enigmatic OMAC.
"Then we must form a raiding party to find her. We must liberate those ladies," she states, authoritatively.
"And find my brother," Lyra says, more to herself than anyone else. While she has no desire for a paternal authority figure, somehow a brother - an equal - strikes a chord within her.
"Send a message to Steppenwolf" comes the booming voice of the Worldbreaker, to which Bi-Beast and OMAC quickly begin prepping a transmission.
"Release Caeira and her child or be destroyed."
Bill turns to regard the Worldbreaker. "We are in no shape to start another war."
Miek chirps in contrast. "We are Warbound. We *kik* are always at war."
Quick clarification--can Team 2 include Green Lanterns as well? (Sinestro Corps and Yellow Lanterns are both listed, but I see Fear, Will, and Hope tokens, which makes me suspect "Yellow" is a typo.)
Steppenwolf sits upon his throne, the ruins of Darkseid's clearly displayed before him. A message is sent. "Darkseid is dead. I, Steppenwolf, am now the ruler of Apokolips. Let us consider this... a fresh start. All are welcome to try for peace, except the vile Kree. Some may be required of you, but you will find my demands more than fair." He ends the message, then looks to Omega Red. "Give the warbound what they ask. Tell them that they shall be amply rewarded if they turn their warmongering on the Kree."
