Maybe you should test it. Put both teams on a map and play against yourself. It's certainly not as competitive as playing against a real opponent, but it can give you some ideas about the strenghts and weaknesses of each team.
I'd probably go with the hero team. You've got Stealth, free moving fliers, Superman Ally for your Legion troops, a ton of Outwit, loads of 5-damage attackers... how many actions/turn are allowed?
Actually, even that doesn't matter. Go with the hero team.
I'd go with team one. The LE Superman can destroy ANY team if used properly, especially if he's flanked by Batman and Nightwing.... I use a variation of that team to own mattsolo's Avengers/Fantastic Four team. You have stealth, 4 figures with x ray vision.... Do the wise thing and put the Lantern with Firestorm and Live Wire... Roam around and smack any stealth figs with Live Wire, then polish them off with Firestorm.... Keep Batman or Nightwing within earshot of Superman just to keep people away from him, and remember, soar, soar, SOAR with LE Superman. BTW, I beat 2, count'em 2 SOD Superman's at my tourney this week.. He's a joke.
I would go heroes, but I would downgrade Cosmic Boy to Booster Gold E, then you can upgrade the Policeman to a Huntress or Robin. Also, if you own Martian Manhunter, use him. He rules!
Yeah I tried fitting Martian Manhunter in to the original team, but to do so I would have had to sacrifice using either Supes, GL or Wonder Woman along with someone else to fit him in.
So rather than making changes to the original team, I made a new heroes team featuring 'The Big Seven' (Supes, MM, GL, WW, Bats, Flash and Aquaman):
- LE Superman (236 points)
- Unique Martian Manhunter (177 points)
- Veteran Green Lantern (145 points)
- Veteran Wonder Woman (126 points)
- Experienced Batman (92 points)
- Experienced Flash (82 points)
- LE Arthur Curry (51 points)
- Veteran Green Arrow (50 points)
- Veteran Robin (22 points)
- Veteran Easy Company Medic (19 points)
1000 points even.
I thought about using a Rookie Livewire instead of the Veteran Robin for taxiing purposes, but Robin's always brought me good fortune. They don't call him the 'Boy Wonder' for nothing. I'll leave taxiing grounded figures up to GL so they can disperse once GL has landed.
In the end, I'm three figures down from the original team, but I think the addition of Martian Manhunter makes up for it (Stealth, Perplex, Super Strength, Phasing, Impervious, etc, etc).
Should I use this heroes team instead of the original heroes team?
I'm very biased towards Martian Manhunter....he's one of my favorite characters ever. I do like this new team...it feels very "Super Friends". Now all we need is Apache Chief, Black Vulcan, Samurai and Cyborg and we're all set! But in all seriousness, I do like the second team better, it just looks good.
Yeah we're sticking to the 10 moves per turn thing, but I'll probably only use four or five moves during my turns, depending what I can do. And so I can keep the other half of the team free.
I just came back from playing with a friend, and the team did surprisingly well considering it was up against an 18 figure team.
From memory, he had this team:
- Unique Elektra (Xplosion)
- Unique Nick Fury
- Exp She-Hulk
- Exp Thor
- Veteran Gambit
- Vet Invisible Girl
- Vet Logan
- Vet Storm
- Exp Black Panther
- Exp Jean Grey
- Exp Mandroid Armor
- Rke Cyclops
- Rke Dr. Strange
- Exp Shield Sniper
- Rke Shield Sniper
- Vet Paramedic
- Exp Paramedic
- Rke Paramedic
I can't believe I remembered all that.
My opponent was rather unlucky at the start to miss a few fairly easy attack rolls, and I managed to get most of my Super Senses and Impervious rolls with Supes, Flash, and Martian Manhunter, which kept them in the game a bit longer.
Wonder Woman was the first casualty, she was swarmed upon and got taken out in one round.
I managed to take out 10 of his figures in the end, a decent effort considering he had three medics to go to.
In the end it was LE Superman and LE Arthur Curry left standing. My opponent's team finally clammed together to gang up on Superman and eventually taking him out.
I conceded defeat with Arthur Curry looking for a drain pipe to dive through.
Things I discovered?
Martian Manhunter is a beast! He'll definitely be a staple in those high point games. He combined with the Flash and Superman on several occasions upping their damage to make some pretty big hits.
Do I regret not fielding the original heroes team? Not for a second; having the "Big Seven" on my side made the game a lot of fun, and I wouldn't even consider making any major changes to the line-up in the future.
In the end it was "death by numbers" (isn't that a Sandra Bullock movie?) and a couple of foolish or forgetful moves tipped the scales slightly, but all in all, I'm very happy with the outcome.
