I picked up a Civil War Starter for 50% off the other day, and I familiarizing myself with the game (which I most likely will only play at home with family).

I see in the starter that only there's only one card that doesn't have an additional power or global ability - the "Janet Van Dyne" Wasp card.

Are these few and far between in the game (similar to how it's rare these days to find a heroclix dial without some kind of trait/SP)?

Just wondering if it's easily feasible to play a "simple" game without any extra stuff to keep track of. I know I could just play anything and ignore the card text but I am curious in general as to what's out there.

They are relatively rare, yes. I think you get maybe 1 or 2 like that per set, though I've never actually sat down to count.

get a TMNT set - they're reasonably "simpler" to play and the Turtles/foes are reasonably balanced.

And you aren't chasing the "blind bag" monster - it's a fixed distribution set - everything from the set is in the box.

If you're interested in obtaining character cards without abilities or Globals, you might want to consider checking online retailers who sell singles.

Aside from the version of Wasp that you mentioned, I know of at least 3 others off the top of my head:

common Ghost Rider from Avengers vs. X-Men (if you can find it online),
common Ant Man from Uncanny X-Men,
and the Age of Ultron starter comes with a version of Iron Man with no abilities and a low purchase cost (this is the version I use for my Guardians of the Galaxy teams)

There may be others in the various DC sets, but I don't collect those so I can't help there.

we just played a rainbow draft using the new Deadpool set - there are almost zero globals in that set (but there's no starter set, so you would need to get your basic actions and sidekicks from somewhere else).
