Welcome to another exciting preview of the upcoming Marvel HeroClix: Avengers/Defenders War set! Today, we’re looking at one of the more unique villains in the Marvel pantheon, the Savate master, Batroc!


At 40 points, Batroc is a close combat master, a martial artist of the highest caliber, and the leader of Batroc’s Brigade. As ‘ze lee-pair’, Batroc specializes in never being constrained on his movement, and that’s recognized on his dial by Improved Movement – Ignores Elevated Terrain, Ignores Hindering Terrain, and Ignores Characters.[...]

So full move to give him an action token. Then he can side step twice and make a free close attack. Potentially a 14 square movement in a single turn, followed by an attack! Wow, not bad for 40 points. Just wait until he can pick up light objects with the soon to be rules. Yikes. Maybe they meant "if he begins the turn with 1 action token."

Oh wow, it's like evil Nightwing. Action token every other turn, and just let him bounce around smacking things with precision. I certainly wasn't expecting to see Batroc in this set, but I'm very glad he's making such a worthy appearance!

Any day with Batroc is a good day.

8+2+2=12, not 14.

I wish he had one more named keyword. AIM, MoE or something. As of right now, I love the character and dial, but I don't see a point in making on with such narrow keywords.

That's a nice, low-cost Batroc, but I'd hate to pull that as a SR in sealed.

It's a good thing he appears to be a rare, then! Going by the silver background on the picture, at least.

Yeah, he's pretty good for the points, but the lack of the AIM keyword means I'll probably never play him.

I'm sure Wizkids would argue that he's got some great keywords, martial artist is totally appropriate for him and gives him great synergy with other strong figures after all they love keywords it says so in the rules articles. Granted with the retirement of ata's your only going to build a generic team by accident while min maxing your build unless you really really need that map choice but C'est la vie.
(thought I'd slip in a bit of French to make Batroc feel at home seeing as nobody wants him on their keyword)

Love the piece, apart from the limited keywords, I suppose we can always hope for a new member or two for the Brigade though they could have given it to Porcupine if that was going to happen.

A final thought, I know he's only a 40 point version so it would be a bit of a stretch in this point bracket but I can't help thinking someone who is so known for recruiting people to work for him that he got his own keyword should be one of those figures that can grant his keyword to other figures on the team.

Great, efficient dial, and I love the character, but unless they start fleshing out Batroc's Brigade, I can't see myself using him much. Pity.

Yeah, what's with no MODOK-related keyword? How's he supposed to team up with Gwenpoole?

Haha. I don't math well aparently. Still, 12 squares of really improved movement + attack for so little! He is seriously good for the points. Imagine him with some perplex or empower. Yikes.

I can't wait for this figure. I've got a mess of the Bator's Brigade 20 pogs from the Winter Soldier starter.

I wish they would have give the keyword to Porcupine...

Now, if they'll just remake Living Laser, and make Machete and Zaran.
