[300 Point] Modern Animal Team: Reptiles and a Rodents
Modern Format
Casual Theme Team
300 Points
I'm looking for advice on an animal theme team. I've come up with a build focusing around lots of bystander token abuse. I mainly want to use Squirrel Girl either for her Squirrel Armor! trait or making a giant Squirrel Man bystander.
First off I put in Devil Dinosaur to make waves of bystander spam to stall while Squirrel Girl makes bystanders of her own. His bystanders also have a variety of powers to help deal with whatever my opponent has. Preferably starting out with a wave of Rockabilly M.O.D.O.K bystanders for Psychic Blast to eat through defenses so Leonardo and Throg can get in for big damage. Later on I would send in a wave of either Drop Bears or Homicide Crabs with Squirrel Girl armor'ed up, and Devil Dinosaur. I added in Leonardo for his Leadership so Squirrel Girl is able to easily make tokens each turn without stopping you from swarming your opponent with Devil Dinosaur Bystanders. Leonardo also has Blade/Claws/Fangs but you get to roll two d6 and choose one result. That paired with Throg from The Mighty Thor set and his +2 Perplex for animals Leonardo can be a 13 attacker with special B/C/F.
Admittedly Throg does feel weak outside of his role as a perplexer. Both close combat figures are also rather squishy. Also missing things like Outwit, Exploit Weakness, and Probability(outside of TTPC).
I have also considered a build with Rocket Raccoon from the gotg starter for Outwit and two range attacks, stealth, ignores hindering. Send in a wave of bystanders and sniper at your opponent with Rocket. With the last 40 points Wasp from adw is the best support piece I think. She has Psychic Blast, can carry Rocket/Squirrel Girl, and also has Leadership. Her trait let's her swap into a running shot, Incap, with Super Senses and better defenses if she get's based.
Which build do you think is best? Any changes you would make? Any advice appreciated! Thank you
EDIT: Sorry for the double-post, forgot I was going to edit my last one.
I understand Devil Dinosaur has made waves, so I can't really fault you for using him. If you want to make an animal theme, Throg definitely helps a lot. A +2 Perplex is always helpful, especially if you can keep him in water for a 19 defense (or 20 if you push). I actually may be running an animal team with him soon, albeit with much more freedom at 500. The TMNT sets definitely have no shortage of good animals. One suggestion I'd have would be space Leo.What with all the special equipment around now, depriving pieces of their starting, signature equipment would be huge. He also effectively turns all this new auto-equip stuff into relics of old, so they can't guarantee a pickup. On top of that, he's a nice ranged attacker that can still switch up to close after he's hit.
Then of course, there's one of my favorite pieces of all. Mind Control is considerably worse now than it used to be (no stealing a Pulse Wave, sadly), but he's still pretty nice. Hopping around an ideally green-heavy map, his Mind Control basically can't be blocked. He gives you the Probability Control you might lack as a generic team, and yet another Perplex is always welcome.
The TMNT3FF has some surprising Animal options in Bebop & Rocksteady, both spawning their own bystanders that you basically want to push up to die. I certainly don't mind someone with Charge, Sidestep, & Invulnerability all at once for 40 points. Ran Bebop & Rocksteady in a 100 point setting, and they got a lot of mileage.
Hellcow would be absolutely hilarious with the +2 Perplex of Throg helping her out.
Non-binary. Please refer to me in "they/them" pronouns. Thank you.
Are you going about this in terms of the "feel" or an actual Animal keyword theme? I ask because Wasp doesn't seem to have it.
Aiming for keywords but bending in places where the only animals available are lackluster. But it seems like was wrong in the 40 point department. That Rocksteady/Bebop actually fits in quite nicely. My only worry is getting through defensive powers. Although paired with Rocket Raccoon that wouldn't be as much of an issue.
I did also consider Space Leo at one point but my group barely plays equipment and Leo is hard to get a hold of
I'm not sure if the Bovine is a worthy gamble for 50 points. People play him though, so..maybe?
Rat King is awesome. I have him added to my list for a 500 point build but can't find room for him in here without taking out two other dials. I could build it..
85: Squirrel Girl
100: Devil Dinosaur
100: Rat King
15: Ms.Lion
I really do like Klarion but I'm not sure he fits in the 300 point build over Rocket with Outwit. I'm really worried about defense powers. Hawkman is beastly but pretty costly. Kraven is amazing! He is basically giving the team charge for free :D But even then Klarion > Kraven
